High Lakes Logout - 2021

A warm dry spring made for some great conditions and good motivation for crews to get out early and start clearing trails in the High Lakes area (Lake of the Woods-Fish lake-Fourmile Lake). Work started in late April and was wrapped up in early June after about 15 work days.

Small crews cut out about 60 logs and swamped and raked out the accompanying sticks, branches, cones etc. from 40 miles of trail in the network.  Work this year was facilitated considerably with the addition of KTA use of an ebike/cargo trailer, and a new chainsaw and other tools.  The use of the ebike/cargo trailer is a generous donation from Zach’s Bikes and comes from their rental fleet. This setup has proven to be a real time and energy saver for the old geezer workers out there, more miles are covered and more work gets done!!

KTA was able to purchase the new chainsaw and other tools and supplies thanks to a very generous grant that came through Travel Southern Oregon. Thanks again to Brad Niva and the staff over in Medford for the support and partnership!

Moore Park Bike Skills Area

Dirt Mechanics LLC has made good progress already on the new bike skills area in Moore Park. After just 10 days the downhill trails in Zone 1 are roughed in and the practice area in Zone 2 is taking shape as well.  Work continues through the end June and early July.  The goal of the bike skills area is to provide a safe learning environment for families, youth and those new to the sport of mountain biking.

Trail Maintenance

Volunteer hours for May totaled 265 hours last month.

Highlights for May:

Fred Meyer's Community Rewards & AmazonSmile Helps KTA!

If you shop at Fred Meyer or Amazon you could be helping KTA with your purchases. There are “no strings attached” other than having to set-up an online account if you don’t have one.
A frequently asked question about the Fred Meyer charity program is whether you lose your reward points by naming a charity.  The simple answer is NO. Here is a link to the frequently asked questions and information on how to link your rewards card.

AmazonSmile is also simple to set-up. Follow this link to support of Klamath Trails Alliance or this link for more information.  With Amazon you will need to place your order on the AmazonSmile site in order in to generate contributions back to KTA.
