Klamath Trails Alliance

December 2020

Happy Holidays from the KTA crew!  Check out the nice decorations (above) that mysteriously appeared in Moore Park near the Lynnewood connector.  Blueberry trail also has a tree decorated.  It must be those little trail elves spreading holiday cheer!

Board Election Update

Thank-you all for voting.  A few folks had issues with the voting link on the email sent to current KTA members yesterday (12/16/20).  If you had an issue with the link please just hit "reply" and send us an email with your vote.  If you didn't receive the email that means your membership is not current.

Spence Fundraiser

This community is amazing!  After only a month we've raised $10,670 or 76% of our $14,000 goal for trail development at Spence in 2021.

Recall that Mark Goodman (KTA Board Member) and Zach's Bikes are matching up to $14,000 for the spring build.  More on the build in the next article.

Please help us get over the top by yearend.  A donation of any size is appreciated and can be made online by clicking the button below or by mailing a check to Klamath Trails Alliance, P.O. Box 347, Klamath Falls, OR  97601 in care of the "Spence Fund".

Spence Mountain 2021 Plans

We have another great build season planned for 2021 at Spence!

The biggest addition will be a flow trail called Speed King that roughly parallels South Ridge. It starts off of South Ridge along the ridge about three miles in. The first half mile will be a black flow trail with a little bit harder features and the lower approximately 2 miles will be blue. “Flow trail” means a trail that is a little wider that a traditional single track, lots of turns/berms, small jumps, and is built so you don’t have to use your brakes much. It will be one-way downhill, using South Ridge as the climbing route. There will likely be a couple of connectors between the two trails to allow for smaller loops.

With this trail addition, the area around Junction 1 and the trail head will be re-configured to separate the downhill from the uphill traffic. This will require a couple short reroutes of Hooligan and South Ridge to make it all work together.

The second trail to be constructed will be approximately one mile long green walking/biking loop out of the main trailhead. This trail will be isolated from the rest of the system to minimize user conflicts. It should provide nice views and a quiet place to spend a few minutes.

Trail Maintenance

Trail maintenance is starting to wind down with winter setting in.  There were 9 work days generating 81 hours of trail maintenance in November.  Year-to-date we've logged 1,568 hours of volunteer time!

Highlights of November:
Moore Park - 38 hours, finish re-routes, clear downfall
Spence Mountain - 48 hours, clear downfall, install trail signs

Please post your maintenance hours on our trail work log.  You can include drive time to and from the trail location.  This helps us track volunteer hours and is especially important when applying for grants as it shows community support!

Fred Meyer's Community Rewards & AmazonSmile Helps KTA!

If you shop at Fred Meyer or Amazon you could be helping KTA with your purchases. There are “no strings attached” other than having to set-up an online account if you don’t have one.
A frequently asked question about the Fred Meyer charity program is whether you lose your reward points by naming a charity.  The simple answer is NO. Here is a link to the frequently asked questions and information on how to link your rewards card. Last year we had 11 households that named KTA (organization number: CH538) as their non-profit generating $45 in donations per quarter.

AmazonSmile is also simple to set-up. Follow this link to support of Klamath Trails Alliance or this link for more information.  With Amazon you will need to place your order on the AmazonSmile site in order in to generate contributions back to KTA.
