Trail News & Information

Spence Mountain Trail Project

Trail building season has officially begun at Spence!
Dirt Mechanics arrived April 4th and plans to complete Phase Two, linking the South Ridge Trail to the top of Spence Mountain then down Hooligan completing a 10-12 mile loop.
Thanks to Mark Goodman, we have a new Spence Map. The map shows trails completed and the construction schedule for the remainder of this year. If all goes as planned we’ll be adding over 10 miles of trail this year and doubling our network.  New trails include Mazama designed as a Green or Easy trail and North Ridge designed as a Black or Most Difficult trail. This will expand our options for all user types and hopefully offer something for everyone.

Note: we’ve decided to make Hooligan a downhill only trail to prevent user conflict as the design was intended for downhill biking.  Several popular trails systems have used directional trails typically after they’ve had user conflict.  We are trying to get in front of things before there is a problem.
Early season conditions at Spence have been excellent so get out and enjoy the trails!
Other News

Meet Moore Park's newest trail: Southie!
Kevin Jones and volunteers have been busy at work, even in the winter and early spring days in Moore Park. They've built the newest trail in Moore Park: Southie.
Southie begins at the Eulalona Trailhead kiosk and climbs up KAGO hill, where it connects into Blueberry trail.
It's a perfect trail for beginners, level green circle.
Southie is not done yet. It will eventually connect into the top of Sunrise Trail.
Other trail work is in progress in the Eulalona area. Blueberry trail will be rebuilt from top to bottom. And volunteers have given a face-lift to the Eulolana trail head.
Check out Southie information (like shown below) by clicking here.

The Eulalona TH:
Klamath Falls City Streets resurfaced the parking area late last fall and created the picnic area. At that time they installed a new water drainage system.
The old green gate to the EulaIona Trail was replaced with more welcoming bollards that increase access to the trail.
Kevin rebuilt two old picnic tables and he and volunteers installed cement anchors for the tables and anchored a City Parks garbage can. They also planted grass and wildflower seed on the hillside to beautify the area. Trees will be planted this fall. A new trail head welcome sign will be placed soon along with a new info kiosk.
Thanks to Volunteers!

KTA has thanked its trail maintenance volunteers. The letter was printed in the March 26th issue of the Herald & News. Click here to read it.
