Trail News & Information

A Big Thank-You to Samantha!!

We bid farewell to Samantha Tipler. She has helped publish our newsletter each month, written articles and layout pictures. Her efforts have been a big help to us. She was an early supporter of KTA also helping out at our event booth.

We checked in with Samantha for her thoughts: “I'm proud of the Spence trail system and love the trails in Moore Park. I do ski and bike a little, but hike and run more.”

Samantha and her husband are heading to the Portland area to live. We wish them all the best. Who knows? Maybe our ever popular trail system may draw them back some day.
June Trail Projects
  • Brown Mt Trail - cut out a log on west end of Fish lake trail. Machine brushed ~0.5 mi of huckleberry about 0.5 mi. west of PCT crossing.
  • Mt. McLoughlin/PCT/Sky Lakes Wilderness - maintained drainage, some brushing from trailhead to Woodpecker Lake; maintain drainage, brush small encroaching trees for about two miles North from Sky Lakes Trail Junction; in Blanket Creek Burn area, removed all tree portions that were light enough for one person. Worked from South end of burn to ridgeline just North of Goose Egg mountain.
  • High Lakes Trail - raked High Lakes Trail west to PCT junction then finished to Rd 900 (job is finished).
  • Spence - installed sign posts and posted temporary trail signs on recently completed trails.
  • Moore Park - completed another 100’ of new Sawmill Trail; weed trimmed and brushed several trails; re-attached loose boards on KRVT boardwalk bridge.

Klamath Falls Spandex Mafia Project

One cycle-phobic argument circulating around town (and the web) is that the new protected bike lane in Klamath Falls will negatively impact businesses located along Oregon Ave. To my knowledge there is really no evidence to suggest this kind of effect is real.  In fact, designs and features that slow vehicle traffic and increase pedestrian traffic actually benefit businesses because pedestrians are more likely to spontaneously stop into a business.

The purpose of this fund (click here) is to generate some goodwill between those of us who are pro-bike lane and the businesses and  residents along Oregon Ave. The fund monies will be used to purchase $10 & $20 gift certificates for restaurants along Oregon Ave. We will go door to door giving out these gift certs to residents who live within walking/biking distance of the bike lane.

If we can raise $1000, we will give out approx 75 gift certificates in total.

FYI: This effort will be combined with other events & activities along the protected bike lane, such as litter clean-up and casual group rides.
