Trail News & Information

Remembering Ken Hay

Herald and News photo

Recently, we at the Klamath Trails Alliance were saddened to learn our friend, Ken Hay, had passed away from brain cancer.
Ken was a friend to all who liked outdoor activities.
Back in 2009, he envisioned a link between Moore Park and the Running Y. The link became the Klamath Ridgeview Trail, which he championed and helped build.
He was an Energizer Bunny who attended many of the local nonprofit meetings, including the early meetings of the KTA. His enthusiasm and energy kept many-a-project going.
Ken will be missed and never forgotten.
Klamath Mammoth Gravel Grinder
Gravel Grinder a Roaring Success!
On the morning of Saturday, May 21st, an excited crowd of cyclists gathered at 11th and Main Streets in downtown Klamath Falls, awaiting the start of the first-ever Gravel Grinder.
This new event was co-sponsored by KTA and the Lost Cascades Cycling Club.
The sun was shining but the temperature was cool enough to show your breath. The best way to stay warm was to do the ride. At 8:30, the organizer, Kevin Jones, shouted, “Let’s go!” and off they went on either the 40 mile or 60 mile loop.
We want to thank Gathering Grounds for an amazing breakfast of blueberry pancakes, fruit and other goodies.  And to Rodeos for providing mass quantities of post ride pizza for the hungry cyclists!  Please thank them the next time you are in. Our sponsors are a valued part of the ride experience.
And a big thanks to Kevin Jones for almost single-handedly organizing this riding event. Way to go, Kev!

Klamath Urban Trail Master Plan

Thanks to a huge showing from local trail users, the Klamath Falls City Council approved the Urban Trail Master Plan
on Monday, June 6.
Trail lovers, cyclists, walkers, runners and moms who walk with strollers packed the house with more than 100 people. And enough people spoke in favor to flood the city council with more than an hour of testimony in support of the plan to improve trails, bike lanes and sidewalks in Klamath Falls.

Many Urban Trail Master Plan supporters parked bikes in front of City Hall.

Thanks to Blue Zones Project Klamath Falls for helping get the community motivated to be there. Before Monday, the Klamath County Commissioners had also approved the plan.
But remember, this is only the first step! To make projects in this plan become a reality it will take volunteers and locals willing to step in and make then happen. Let's keep this great momentum rolling.
