Clearing Downfall in the High Country

KTA volunteers took care of several downed trees on Brown Mountain, Rye Spur and High Lakes trail last month.  Navigating over these larger downed logs is tricky for hikers and bikers.

Youth Cycling State Championships Coming to Moore Park

We are proud to host the State Championship Race of the Oregon Interscholastic Cycling Association for 2021. This race is the climatic conclusion of the race season for the Middle School and High School mountain bike teams. This event will act as an impactful showcase of everything that Klamath Falls has to offer the mountain bike community at large.

The Oregon League is part of the larger National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Prioritizing getting youth on two wheels, NICA is about far more than racing. Their mission statement of creating strong minds, bodies, character and communities, resonates throughout everything they do. The competitive aspect of this organization simply acts as a goal for everybody to shoot for.

Races take place in Newport, Bend, Government Camp and Medford throughout the Fall, attracting between 300 and 400 racers as well their families and coaches over the weekend. Oregon consists of almost 30 teams composed of combination of students from schools throughout a region making a composite. The Klamath Falls composite team is comprised of 28 student athletes from a variety of Middle and High schools, as well as 17 volunteer coaches.

The race itself will be taking place throughout much of Moore Park including many of the lower trails. Do bear in mind that those trails will be closed to the public during the event, though crossings and closures will be clearly marked. The course will go right by the skills park as well but will be doing everything we can to keep that open to the public. Spectators are welcome and volunteers are always needed as well (sign up here: https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/558385302077/false#/invitation).

Spence Trails Are Open

Spence Mountain is officially open again. Thank-you for your patience during the fire closure over the last month.

We are still at Level 4 or Extreme fire danger but temperatures have moderated, nights are cooler and we've had some much needed rain. Also, from a resource standpoint Oregon Department of Forestry is in better shape with equipment and personal.

Please continue to use extreme caution when recreating in the forest until we get moisture.
Thank-you!

Trail Maintenance - August 2021

Volunteer hours for August totaled 91 hours last month.

Highlights for August:
Moore Mtn - 38 hrs, brushing, trail building
Spence Mtn - 10 hrs, brushing, closing trailheads
Brown Mtn - 23 hrs, downfall, signing
Rye Spur - 10 hrs, downfall
Wilderness - 10 hrs, helped USFS crew

Please post maintenance hours in our Trail Work Log. Include drive time to and from the trail location. This helps us track volunteer hours and is especially important when applying for grants as it shows community support!

If you want to get involved in trail maintenance we post group events on our Meet-up site.

If you shop at Fred Meyer or Amazon you could be helping KTA with your purchases. There are “no strings attached” other than having to set-up an online account if you don’t have one.
A frequently asked question about the Fred Meyer charity program is whether you lose your reward points by naming a charity.  The simple answer is NO. Here is a link to the frequently asked questions and information on how to link your rewards card.

AmazonSmile is also simple to set-up. Follow this link to support of Klamath Trails Alliance or this link for more information.  With Amazon you will need to place your order on the AmazonSmile site in order in to generate contributions back to KTA.
