We've just about recovered from the excitement of our annual Careers Show that took place at the East of England Showground on 15th July! More about that later, including a date for the next one, but please do share your feedback with us if you were there.

We're now busy planning for the next academic year with nearly 40 events happening across our patch before Christmas. Read on for details of how to get involved with these activities, plus skills news, case studies and more...

Our service is multi-award winning

Our brokerage service has been awarded a Gold Global Best Award for the Europe region for a second consecutive time. This time we have been recognised for work carried out to inspire young people to choose Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Sponsorship opportunities for 2016 Careers Show

Results of this year's CBI/Pearson Education and Skills Survey show that companies are still anticipating a growing skills gap, with skills shortages holding back businesses across all regions and many sectors. This includes manufacturing, construction and professional services. [read more]


The Peterborough Arena was buzzing at this year's Careers Show as thousands of young people from across the region found inspiration for their future careers. The event attracted nearly 3,500 visitors with over 200 exhibitors providing a showcase of the wide range of career opportunities on offer in the local area.

Highlights included a Pit Stop challenge, vertical wind tunnel, pancake making, seminars on vital employability skills and preparing for university life, plus music and dance demonstrations. Young people need inspiration as well as information and guidance, and the event successfully brought together schools from Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Fenland, Rutland, Norfolk and Suffolk to achieve this under one roof. Feedback from everyone involved in the Careers Show has been incredible and we would like to thank all of the exhibitors who gave up their time to make this event such a huge success.

Our Work Experience team are busier than ever with 13 schools in Peterborough already booked to send groups of students out on work experience between February and July next year. This shows the huge value that schools are seeing in using work experience to help prepare students for the world of work.

Women in Engineering Day

Perkins hosted a group of budding engineers for an afternoon to celebrate National Women in Engineering Day 2016. This campaign aimed to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the career opportunities available, particularly to girls, in this exciting industry.

Meet the Professionals

200 Year 8 students from Abbey College in Ramsey took part in a Meet the Professionals event to learn about careers and jobs in a wide range of sectors. Following a series of talks, the students enjoyed a networking lunch where they had the opportunity to ask for further information about different careers.

Build a Business

Groups of Year 9 and 10 students at Thomas Deacon Academy in Peterborough were tasked with designing a product, marketing it and pitching it to both their peers and a panel of business professionals. This enterprise challenge aims to encourage enterpreneurship and develop key skills.

Following on from the success of the inaugural 'Dersingham Works' event on 21st June, we will be making this a regular business networking event from now on. The next event takes place on Wednesday 5th October from 7:30 to 9:00am at the St Nicholas Church Hall in Dersingham, PE31 6LN.

Our Events Calendar is filling up for the next academic year. We are particularly looking for businesses to support the following events:

  • Saturday 20th August, 10:30am - 7:30pm: YMCA Celebration of Youth Day - this event is being organised by YMCA Cambridgeshire & Peterborough to give young people, their faimilies and friends the chance to take the spotlight for a one day festival in Peterborough city centre. We are hosting an 'Education, Enterprise & Careers Zone', which includes a CV and careers surgery for all ages, and we're looking for business professionals to volunteer some time to support this zone.
  • Wednesday 19th October, 1:00 - 7:30pm: Careers Fair at Springwood High School in King's Lynn - we're expecting around 2,000 students from West Norfolk to attend this careers exhibition. Book your stand to showcase your organisation and help to raise the aspirations of young people in the area.
