Did you know that over this past school year Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance worked on 13 STEM Education projects that impacted over 1500 educators (in school and out of school), 69 school districts; and increased national participation to 14 states outside of Maine?
One of the highlights was MMSA’s work on the Maine State Science Fair hosted by Bowdoin College in March. The event was attended by over 300 students, parents, educators and professionals - a new record! 95 awards were given out in the form of scholarships and cash to high school students who traveled from all across the state.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg! As we all barrel full force toward the end of the 2018/2019 school year Maine has a lot to celebrate! As of early May, Maine has OFFICIALLY adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as our science learning standards throughout the State. This move towards equity across districts means that we are all gearing up together to implement this exciting reform for science learning! But we need your help to make this vision a reality.
As we celebrate the end of the school year, we want to see how excited each and every one of you are about the growing potential for Maine to be a leader and an example of what NGSS reform can look like when supported across the State!
To help achieve this, MMSA has a goal of raising $12,500 to jumpstart our growing capacity to support educators and educational leaders throughout Maine as they move forward with NGSS implementation in their communities.
