Engaging the New
by Brian Kaylor
On July 1, I started a new position with Churchnet. I think this will make my fifth job title in the twelve years I've worked there (wow, that makes me feel a bit old). Most of the others were similar, basically saying I led the communication efforts. The new title - Generational Engagement Team Leader - indicates an expanded role. I'll still give lead to communication items, but will also lead the efforts for our new strategic initiative area of helping churches reach new generations and cultures.
I'm excited - and challenged - by the new focus. If you've followed demographic data, you know that churches are struggling to reach younger generations. My focus will include:
- Training events & resources
- Identify models for best practices
- Digital communications
- Storytelling evangelism
I am looking forward to working with churches on these areas (in the photo above, I'm leading a breakout session during the Churchnet Annual Gathering in April). I'm open to ideas and insights. Let me know if you've seen a church modeling generational engagement.
