QUEBEC CUP EVENT
Hi club members and orienteers!
Passing on some info about the Ottawa O-Fest on Thanksgiving Weekend (Oct. 6-8) which is looking like it should be a super fun weekend of fantastic orienteering.
Not sure what we're talking about? Read on!
O-Fest is Orienteering Ottawa's annual multi-day orienteering festival which requires pre-registration and is a little more structured than most of our events. You will be assigned a start time in advance and there are more courses divided up by age categories to choose from.
This year’s O-Fest is also a Quebec Cup event and the Ontario Championships. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't sign up if you don't consider yourself to have a lot of experience. Just like at all of our events there are a full range of novice to advanced courses that you can choose from!
This year’s O-Fest includes 3 days of orienteering over Thanksgiving weekend (October 6th - 8th):
- Saturday is a middle distance (~30 - 60 minutes) at Vorlage in Wakefield
- Sunday is a long distance (~1-2 hours) also at Vorlage, and
- Monday is a short sprint (~15-25 minutes) and a super fun sprint-relay (teams of 2-4 - 60-90 minutes total) in Gatineau at the Centre Communautaire Tétreau
And for those who can’t get enough, there’s also a 'print your own model event', which you will be able to print from home and do when it suits you, adding up to an impressive 5 orienteering opportunities in 3 or 4 days!
Why should you sign up?
Because it's a lot of fun! There will be a festival atmosphere and welcoming environment around the finish area each day with a KidZone with fun activities for kids, an orienteering vendor on site, music, and announcers following some of North America's top orienteers as they race for Ontario Championship medals. There are already several of us signed up from Ramblers so we encourage you to join us! It's only a 2 hour drive and we encourage carpooling with those that are already going.
Registration fees increase by $5 to $15 on Sept 17th and registration closes September 24th.
