Dear Campus Community,
As President Tiefenthaler noted last week, we are moving forward with the next steps in our external review of racism. This work includes visits from several experts over the remainder of this academic year. The first two of these visits will occur next week. Dr. Nana Osei-Kofi will be here March 4 and 5 to help us consider and implement solutions in CC’s curriculum. Second, Dr. Alma Clayton-Pedersen will visit March 7 and 8 to work with Student Affairs, Student Life, and Admissions on next steps in those realms. Additional visits will occur in April and early May, focusing on governance, classroom climate, faculty development, difficult conversations, and our overall administrative structure to support diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
The intent of all our planned consults is to have each expert focus on a given area in ways that help us implement changes that move us forward as a community. This is why, for example, the FEC is taking a lead role, in collaboration with the CEC and others, in developing a set of questions to guide Dr. Osei-Kofi’s visit. CCSGA will also be hosting a session for students to talk with Dr. Osei-Kofi. Student Life, Student Affairs, and Admissions have collaborated to construct a set of guiding questions for their consult with Dr. Clayton-Pedersen next week, and we will take a similar approach for the visits to occur later this spring.
If you have thoughts, questions, or concerns about any of these visits, I welcome them, and my thanks for your participation in this critical work. As our president has noted, progress towards a more anti-racist, equitable, and inclusive campus depends on sustained engagement and contributions from us all.
Best Regards,

Alan Townsend
Provost
