Dear Campus Community,

The newly established COVID-19 Policy and Implementation Committee brings diverse perspectives to the table, to develop data-informed policy options and protocols that consider the varied needs of our community. The committee will build on the college’s robust COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Plan and the important contributions of previous working groups and committees.
Our deliberations began last week with a broad discussion of guiding principles and objectives, resulting in an overarching policy statement. Our guiding principles are:
  • Prioritize Health and Safety
  • Protect the Integrity and Continuity of our Academic and Athletic Enterprise
  • Advance Diversity and Access
With a common framework in hand, we have started debating policy options and protocols for campus visitors and public events against the backdrop of the recent FDA approval of the Pfizer vaccine and the ongoing uncertainty related to the Delta variant.
Our layered mitigation system continues to feature prominently in our discussions about how to implement policy — including processes, resources, and impacts. Although most members agree that visitors and public events are an essential part of a vibrant college community, the committee continues to explore how best to mitigate the risks and uncertainty introduced by reopening our campus to individuals of unknown vaccination or COVID-19 status. How do we balance health and safety, while advancing access to our campus?
If you would like to weigh in on our guiding principles or the ongoing conversation about visitors and public events, please email us at We look forward to hearing from you!
