Your library Book Club

Are you already a member of a book club or are you interested to become one? Pick up the new 'Your library book club' leaflet in any dlr library from next week and find out what makes book clubs such great places for book lovers to meet up. The leaflet has tips, ideas and suggestions for all book clubs, whether newly formed or running a long time. 

dlr Libraries have invested in a collection of book club sets. This collection has multiple copies of titles available to all book clubs, including popular titles such as The Vegetarian by Han Kang and The Gustav Sonata by Rose Tremain. View the collection here. Shakespeare short films

LexIcon Studio

As part of the LexIcon’s Shakespeare exhibition featuring the work of Kenneth Branagh (1 July-14 August), a number of recently commissioned Shakespeare short films will be shown on Tuesdays 19 26  July and 9 August. Fancy a 4 minute Romeo and Juliet or a 2 minute Macbeth?
In association with the British Council and Queen’s University Belfast. Please note that these short films don’t feature Kenneth Branagh but many of his full length Shakespeare films are available in your local dlr library!

Have an idea but need some help figuring out where to get started or what creative technologies might help bring the idea to life? Maybe you just want to bounce your idea off someone else? Drop into the Dún Laoghaire LexIcon Lab where our Creative Technology Curator, Dr. Jake Rowan Byrne, other “makers” and members of the community will be there and keen to help out.  We want you to help make the LexIcon Lab a place where the future's in the making.

'Missing' Exhibition Talk

Thursday 14 July, 6.30pm

A talk by photographer Aidan Crawley and journalist Ronan McGreevy. 'Missing' is a photographic exhibition of the Somme landscape to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the battle. On display in dlr LexIcon, until 30 August.

Babies Love Books

Don't forget dlr Libraries gives a free book to every child born in the county via our 'Babies Love Books' book-gifting scheme. Public health nurses provide an invite at a babies' 9 month check-up, to collect a book bag at your local dlr library. The pack itself contains a board book, recommendations list as well as information on how to join the library and all the services provided.
No child is too young to join their local library!
