Heritage Week Talk
Dalkey Castle, Friday 26 August, 7.30pm
Talk by Ronan King on Easter 1916. Based on a fascinating diary, written in a notebook by 22 year old Kathleen King (née Murphy: 1893-1978) of Mount Salus Road, Dalkey during the 1916 Rising, which was found by her family amongst her collection of photos, letters, playbills and memorabilia. The diary recorded events in Easter week 1916 as they unfolded, including the impact of martial law on the streets of Dalkey and the arrest of locals. dlr Libraries created an exhibition based on the King diaries which was launched in February in dlr LexIcon and is currently on display in Marley House. Admission to this talk is free but must be pre-booked. Email info@dalkeycastle.com or telephone 01 2858366.

Who remembers Lee’s shop in Dún Laoghaire? The Dún Laoghaire shop which closed in the late 1970's and was situated where Dunnes Stores now is, was one of several opened by Edward Lee in the late 19th century along with others in Bray, Rathmines and city centre. Michael Lee, Edward’s great-grandson curated this fascinating exhibition about an extraordinary man, with the support of dlr Libraries, and has also produced an accompanying book about Edward’s life and times which will be for sale for €10 at the launch.
