St. Lucie County
Chamber of Commerce

30th Annual Business & Industry Awards

On September 17th more than 300 business professionals from around St. Lucie County filled the room at Treasure Coast Lexus on U.S.1 to celebrate the St. Lucie County Chamber Business and Industry’s 30th Annual Awards and Dinner. These awards have a rich history in St. Lucie County and past winners include some of the top employers, contributors and community partners currently conducting business in St. Lucie County. The Chamber recognized businesses in 14 categories for their overall impact on the economic well-being and quality of life. This year nominees were submitted by the Committee as well as the general public. Judging criteria included community involvement, economic impact, Chamber participation, and environmental responsibility. Nominees were then narrowed to finalists from whom an overall category winner was chosen. Among the many categories highlighted that evening were unsubsidized nonprofits organizations. The Inner Truth Project, nominated last year as a semi-finalist, was the award recipient this year. “We are honored to be recognized for our work alongside some incredible agencies in St. Lucie County,” stated Inner Truth Project Board Member, Serena DeFrank. “Through The Inner Truth Project we are able to partner with other nonprofits and bring awareness about what our organization does for survivors of sexual violence here on the Treasure Coast.”

Image of Hope
This month we started a new project: The Image of Hope. Whether we are sitting with our backs to the mirror or facing it head on, the message is still the same. We are brave enough to sit before our reflection. Our position perhaps reflective of where we are on our journey toward healing. With our backs to the mirror, we send the message that we are strong enough to look to the future and to take one step at a time toward a brighter tomorrow. Facing the mirror we say that we are able to look at ourselves and embrace all that we have been, all that we are, and all that we hope to be. We are empowered because we no longer have to hide. We are free to discover and embrace the beauty that lies within and without. It’s the turn of a long forgotten smile, the light emerging from attitude that says, “I am here, and I will not disappear.” In this space we are determined to explore the image before us; the image of hope.

On Saturday, November 1, 2014, the long awaited, first all male support group for survivors of sexual violence will begin at The Inner Truth Project. For the last two years, the center has held support groups and workshops for women who have been raped, molested, experienced incest or some sort of sexual violence or trauma. “Though the need has always been great and the initial vision when the center opened was to help men as well, the timing just wasn’t right. I receive calls and emails from male survivors almost weekly. I knew supporting male survivors was something we needed to include from the start because sexual violence does not discriminate. Perpetrators target women and men at all ages” states the The Inner Truth Project Founder, Mindi Fetterman. Our free and confidential, all male support group will be led by Eric Garza, LCSW,CAP. Clinical Sexologist. Group will be held the 1st Saturday of the month from 10:00-11:00am and the 3rd Monday at 6:30-7:30pm.

Sin By Silence
Date to be Announced
$5 Investment

Inside the California Institution for Women, the first inmate initiated and led group in U.S. prison history, shatters the misconceptions of domestic violence.

Convicted Women Against Abuse (CWAA) was created in 1989 to help women inside prison break the silence about abuse and learn more about what they needed to do to help others stop the cycle of violence.

Instead of fighting a system that does not fully comprehend the complexities of abuse, the women of CWAA led an initiative to help educate the system. Through careful orchestration of letter writing campaigns, media coverage, and senate hearings a movement was born and laws for battered women were changed. And for the founder of CWAA, the flicker of hope begins to grow as her possible freedom, after 26 years in prison, lies moments away.
