Music·Musique NB Launches New
INDUSTRY PATHWAYS Program to Invigorate Live Music Sector
November 9, 2023 | Moncton, NB | Music·Musique NB (MNB) is proud to announce the launch of INDUSTRY PATHWAYS, a dual-focused initiative that will provide support to New Brunswick live music workers for training, mentorship and skill development. INDUSTRY PATHWAYS will see $180,000 injected into the New Brunswick creative sector, made possible by the Government of Canada through the Canada Performing Arts Workers Resilience Fund program.
“Today is a good day for New Brunswick’s live music industry,” says MNB’s Executive Director Jean Surette. “Live music was one of the first industries to shut down, and it continues to be one of the last to recover. Training the next generation of live music workers, supporting musicians in their businesses, and bolstering our vibrant patchwork of festivals, venues and agencies will create a lasting impact on the province’s creative sector.”
INDUSTRY PATHWAYS has two components aimed at the live music sector, set to begin in December and run until March 2023. Artists, venues, festivals, and current or aspiring live music workers can access support through in two ways:
- Internship Component: This component provides wage stipends to individuals and organizations for 12-week internships in which the individuals receive specialized training and work experience in the live music sector.
- Expert Access Component: This component provides access to advice, mentorship and services from nationally recognized professionals. Participants can book up to three hours with the professional of their choosing - including a public accountant, entertainment lawyer, mental health practitioner, digital marketing consultant, and other music industry experts.
“I can see the benefit of this initiative for every type of business in the live music industry,” MNB’s President Eva George comments. “We’re hoping this can provide musicians and organizations with the boost they need to flourish. There is an education and access gap in the live sector and this program can address that.”
INDUSTRY PATHWAYS will run until March 2023. The Internships Component is now open for applications; the Expert Access Component will open for applications later in November.
This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada.
