Michela's Story

Michela Skelton is a young activist (31) and an attorney from Boone County who formerly worked for the non-partisan Senate research office in the Missouri Legislature.  She was one of the key leaders of the Sanders campaign in Mid-Missouri in 2016 and last winter was elected Chair of the Missouri Democratic Party's Women's Caucus.  Michela had already planned to run for the 50th Legislative District seat in 2018 before the vacancy came open and she was the unanimous choice to be the Democratic nominee.  She is running a great campaign with hundreds of volunteers.
This district includes small portions of Cole, Moniteau, and Cooper Counties, but the overwhelming majority of the vote comes from Boone County.  This District has been marginally republican since it was gerrymandered into existence, but is easily within reach.  Michela has done a terrific job of raising money, besting the republican nominee in First Quarter fundraising by a significant margin. (Columbia Tribune article attached).  Michela and her husband Chris Birk are the proud parents of two children.
