Antoine Mountain is Back on Top

Prior to departing for Kelowna, British Columbia, our 'A' team from Doppelmayr completed the installation of all 11 towers, the redesigned return and base stations, as well as all communication cables and splicing. All 98 sparkling chairs now await our excited skiers and snowboarders.

Construction at the base station created some engineering challenges when an underground spring was unearthed adding approximately 25000 litres to the foundation area, which was already saturated with unusually high levels of precipitation.  Under the expert direction of Chris Whalley from Calvin Forest Products, an 800 foot swale was excavated to control the water and allow us to reach solid ground. The completion of this process would not have been possible without thousands of tonnes of gravel that was provided by Highway Sand & Gravel in Papineau-Cameron Township.

On Friday, November 21st at 10:30pm, the chalet received power for the first time in over 12 years. With the assistance of Hydro One, Boreal Electric, MainWire, and Aultman Rentals we were able to install a high voltage electrical service maximizing at 14400 volts. All electrical services have been upgraded in the building to a 600 amp main switch. This will provide power to the chalet, the new building in progress, the completed base station, and the two buildings that will house the ski patrol and race team.

Please keep submitting your ideas to name our lift! The winner will be invited to our grand opening where we will debut the name of our new lift!

The new 7500 sq. ft building has progressed since late October. After insulation, rebar additions and in-floor heating systems were installed, Rainbow Concrete Industries Ltd.  out of North Bay was able to pour and Derek De Lerosevelt completed a late night concrete finishing. The framing of this building is well underway at this time. The new building construction has been separated into two stages, Stage 1 is expected to be complete for our grand opening and will be home to our grooming equipment. Stage 2 will house our new lesson/rentals facility, however it will not be open until 2015-2016 winter season. More information on lessons/rentals will be provided on our website in the near future.

On October 31st, we were lucky enough to receive our first snowfall of the season. This was a gracious sign from Mother Nature, as we are relying on her this season. On December 11th, we were blessed with over 25 cm of fresh snow which is again an encouraging sign of a long snowy winter. It was only a few months ago that we announced the redevelopment of Antoine Mountain, with the goal to bring you back on top this winter. Snow making is a critical component in snow base development and facilitates the ability to open earlier, however the snow making process relies on high voltage electrical supply which was not available until late November. Our snow making equipment will be ready for the fall of 2015.

Since announcing our plan to open this season at Voyageur Days, we have received over 2000 likes on Facebook and 202 followers on Twitter. On November 17th, a photo of the snow covered chairlift reached over 75000 people. We truly appreciate all comments and feedback that is provided through social media and we will continue share news, photos, and videos as we near our grand opening! After opening, we will be looking to you to post and share photos of you and your family + friends having fun on Antoine Mountain!

We are as excited and enthused as you are to open this season. The Antoine Mountain team needs to ensure that all components are ready to host you and your family. At this time, we are unable to set a date for our grand opening – however once we set a date you can be assured that we will invite you all! We will send out a special newsletter, post it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and of course update the news / events section of our website. We encourage you to purchase your lift tickets online knowing that we are working hard to get you #BackOnTop this winter!

Upgrades to the chalet included waterproofing the building by exposing the foundation and resealing the perimeter. An application of exterior paint was applied to the outside of the building. We have also restored the mountain-facing deck which will provide an après atmosphere. The interior upgrades include: all new toilets, sinks and taps, interior refinishing and updating, as well as the installation of communications and technology equipment. The addition of a pellet stove will provide an energy-efficient supplementary heating system to warm you up after a day on the slopes. We are currently completing the final touches on the Après Café.

Today, Friday, December 12th 2014, we launched the second version of our website. Designed by Northern Ontario’s own graphic and web design studio 9 Lives Design! The new version includes information about everything at Antoine Mountain. Read about our 2015 lift ticket rates, purchase your tickets online create your own Mountain account. We have developed our initial Mountain Map detailing all 14 runs as well as developed our Open / Closed run table. The Lessons / Rentals, Apres Café, and Antoine Events will be populated shortly. This phase of our website is one of many, sign up for our newsletter to stay tuned for the integration of our interactive map and live web cameras + more!
