REFLECTIONS

Become a Church That Impacts the Community
by Tom Cramer

For my money, and I’ve supported Church Resource Ministries for years, Awaken and Activate is the best investment a congregation can make if it truly wants to realize the missional potential of its members. Whoever attends will walk away with a concrete plan for how God can use them and their congregation to connect with people outside the church in ways uniquely suited to their giftedness and passion.  More
Home Improvement
by Forrest Claassen

The place of routine maintenance in the life of Los Ranchos is regularly on my mind. Our common life is full of unglamorous work that is nevertheless fundamental to our mission.

As with owning a home, some of that unglamorous work responds to circumstances as they arise: intervening in a congregational conflict, handling a request for dismissal, helping a pastor with unexpected medical expenses.   More

GROWING A HEALTHY CONGREGATION
Prayer for Habitat for Humanity on Sunday, April 17th
by Richard Birkemeier

The problems of homelessness and affordable housing here in SoCal are of such magnitude that our united efforts to find effective solutions are among our most important faith issues.

To that end, the Habitat Coalition is asking each congregation in the Presbytery to offer a special prayer on our behalf on Sunday, April 17th.

PREACHING OPPORTUNITY

Whitworth Institute of Ministry

Each presbytery is invited to form preaching cohorts of up to 8 pastors, with one of them the “cohort leader,” to engage in guided reflection on the relationship between their spiritual lives and their preaching work. Two tracks are planned: one from the summer of 2016 to the summer of 2017, and one from the summer of 2017 to the summer of 2018.

Grants will provide for a stipend for the cohort leader, a small amount of administrative money for the Presbytery, and scholarships for people to attend the Whitworth Institute of Ministry (cohort leaders get free registration and R&B; cohort members get $50 registration instead of $300, but have to cover their own R&B).

Los Ranchos Challenge

Funds Distributed YTD - $188,066

$292,700 has been set aside for matching grants to increase long-term mission from congregations and individuals in Los Ranchos Presbytery. Each gift to a validated project will be matched dollar for dollar. Your generosity will be doubled. This money must be designated before 2017 and be above and beyond our current mission giving. $188,066, or 64% of our fund, has already been distributed to our Validated Projects.

If this is to become a reality we need people like you--people engaged in the mission of Jesus Christ--to prayerfully consider significant gifts toward new and expanded mission.

ANAHEIM NEEDS HELP

From Rebecca Prichard at First Presbyterian Church, Anaheim.

If your congregation has purchased the new hymnal, Glory to God, and if your church was using the supplement, Sing the Faith, perhaps you would be willing to donate some or all of your Sing the Faith supplements to Anaheim, First.  We have about 40 copies but could use more.  Call Leah in the church office if you can help us.  714.535.2176.  We will come and get them from you.
