Novel Structural Skins Newsletter
Dear member of COST Action TU1303 'Novel Structural Skins',
Our next COST Action meeting will be organized at the University of Minho in Guimarães (Portugal) on the 8th and 9th of September 2015. More information can be found on this page, which will be updated regularly with practical information.
The official e-COST invitation for the meeting has been sent by e-mail. If you did not receive the e-mail, please check your spam folder or contact us. Please do not forget to ‘accept’ or ‘decline’ the invitation by following the link in the invitation e-mail. This allows us to estimate the amount of participants.
Taxi from and to airport not reimbursed
The closest airport to Guimarães is Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto, which is about 50 km from Guimarães. Please note that COST will NOT reimburse transport by taxi between the airport and Guimarães. Public transport, such as the train (indirect via Porto Centre) or the direct bus (getbus), will be refunded by COST. Please take this into account when booking your flight. We will add more information with regard to the transportation as soon as available to the webpage.
Working Groups 1a (Adaptable skins & structures) and 1c (Fabric Formwork) will already meet shortly at the IASS Symposium in Amsterdam (not reimbursed by COST) to prepare the working group meeting in Guimarães. Contact Arjan Habraken (WG1a) or John Orr (WG1c) if you would like to receive more information on these preparatory meetings.
Three additional Working Group meetings are also already planned. Working Group 4 and 5 will meet in Nantes during the 1st Training School of this COST Action (see further). All working groups will meet on the 16th and 17th of March 2016 at the Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and from the 26th to the 28th of October 2016 for our TensiNet-COST Symposium in Newcastle (UK). More information will be online soon on our ‘Meetings’ page.

This training school will be organized at the University of Nantes (FR) from the 29th of September till the 1st of October 2015. More information can be found on this page. Working groups 4 and 5 will also meet during this event.

We received from the COST Association the news that the COST Framework is facing a budget cut. This would unfortunately impact the number of future COST Actions and most likely lower the funds available per COST Action.
The COST Association has therefore launched an online petition pleading for a conservation of budgets. The intention is to demonstrate to EU policy makers the importance of bottom-up, open and inclusive science and technology networks for the European research community. More information can be found in their News Release.
Enjoy the holidays!
We are looking forward to meet again on our next meeting in Guimarães. Meanwhile, we hope you can all make some time to enjoy the holidays.
