Whittier Union Extends Remote Learning Through March 12

Dear Whittier Union Community,

Let me begin by thanking you for your patience and support during these difficult times. We remain committed to educating our students in a safe environment and keeping you updated on where we currently stand so our families can make necessary plans.

As we track the numbers for the pandemic, we hope we have seen the pinnacle of infections and have begun a downward trend in infection rates. Although still quite high, the numbers have returned to those seen in early December. We know we still have a long way to go to get numbers that are tolerable but at least they are heading in the right direction.

Although the rates are now dropping, we do not foresee them dropping enough for us to return to any potential in-person instruction during semester 2A.  We will remain in remote learning through the end of Semester 2A (March 12) and keep our eyes on where the numbers go from there. We are hopeful that we will see some students back on our campus this academic year, but we will let the numbers make those determinations.

Also at this time, Whittier Union will continue working with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to establish a plan to safely resume our athletic conditioning program.

For those of you who have lost loved ones during this pandemic, you continue to be in our prayers. For those who have suffered hardships, we think about you often. For those who struggle with the conditions created by this pandemic, we offer our support. Our Student Well Being Team continues to be available for students who are struggling emotionally during this time. Their resources are available here.

As well, you can access our School Opening and COVID-19 Safety Plan Guide for Families, which provides an in-depth overview of the safety measures and steps we are taking to better prepare for our students’ safe return.

We miss seeing our students on campus and the joy they bring us by their presence, but we know there is hope on the horizon. Stay Safe.
