Boonton UMC

March 6, 2022
1st Sunday of Lent

Sunday worship at 11:15am -
In-Person and on YouTube
Boonton UMC: A fun, musical, relevant, relational, and compassionate church
where people find hope, healing, and wholeness.
When words fail us and we don't know what to pray or how to pray, there is a prayer our Savior taught us that we can turn to and echo on our lips.

In the context of giving this prayer, traditionally known as the Lord's Prayer, Jesus was telling people not to heap up empty phrases or to think they will be heard by their many words. What resulted was a short, but powerful prayer. And each line of this prayer is jam-packed with meaning.

Thus, when we speak this familiar prayer on our lips, we can be sure that we will not be heaping up empty phrases, but words filled with meaning, for every line has power and depths to it beyond what we normally realize. Join us as we crack open this prayer together over the next several weeks and learn lessons and insights we hope will stick with you long after these 40 days of Lent.

We also invite you to join us for a special communion Sunday as we gather together to remember the One who suffered for us and gave us life, forgiveness, and grace in abundance.

Whether in-person or on YouTube,
we look forward to seeing you at 11:15am Sunday!

A Prayer for Ukraine

The Social Principles of the United Methodist Church say: “We deplore war and urge the peaceful settlement of all disputes among nations. From the beginning, the Christian conscience has struggled with the harsh realities of violence and war, for these evils clearly frustrate God’s loving purposes for humankind. We yearn for the day when there will be no more war and people will live together in peace and justice.
And so, mindful of the difficult realities going on all around us, we invite you to continue to turn your hearts to prayer as we pray to the God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
Lord God, today we pray for the people of Ukraine and for peace in the region. Today and in the weeks ahead, we pray for an end to the violence, protection from those who seek to harm, and guidance for leaders working to reestablish peace. We also pray for the refugees who are fleeing Ukraine and ask you to help us know how we can play our part. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.

In the face of this evil, we pray for a logic different from the one based on geopolitical competition. We pray for a change of hearts and minds of leaders, we pray for de-escalation and dialogue instead of violence and war. We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.

We pray all this in the name of your Son, our Savior, who taught us to pray, "Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven..."

Hungry to Whole

Resuming In-Person!

Inspired by “The Daniel Plan” book and John Wesley’s Holy Clubs, Hungry to Whole is grounded in Psalm 107:9 – “God satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things” (NIV). Our prayer is that those who come hungry each week would leave whole in more than one way.

We will be in-person again starting Wednesday, March 9th! It will be hosted at Montville UMC with a potluck dinner from 6:30-8:00pm. We’ll have a special topic and presentation called "Stewards of the Earth.” All are welcome!
