The Trinity-Brazos Area of the Southwest Region is accepting resumes/profiles for the part-time Minister of Connection position. Candidates should be ordained ministers in good standing with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and have ministerial experience with individual congregations. Resumes/profiles should be submitted to Rev. The Area Ministry Search Committee will begin evaluating / interviewing applicants on February 24, 2017.
Minister of Connection – 18 hours per week – $27,000/year total compensation package plus a travel and professional expense allowance of $3,000 per year

Primary Responsibilities
The administration of search and call – working with congregational search committees, using the database to provide candidate profiles to churches, and helping churches through the process of filling their ministerial staff.  These needs arise periodically and need to be addressed in a timely manner.
Working with the Area Committee on Ministry –  identifying new candidates for Commissioned ministry, interviewing candidates, answering their questions, shepherding them through the Commissioning process, and helping the Area Committee on Ministry to adhere to TBA guidelines for ministry.
Reporting to the TBA Board and Executive Council – reporting at quarterly TBA Board meetings (including Area Assembly) and reporting to the Executive Council in monthly conference calls.  Reports will be built around the items in this job description.
 Participating in Area constituency groups – maintaining contact with each group (Children and Youth Committee, New and Transforming Church Committee, Global Concerns Committee, 3 sisters Ministry, and Tarrant Churches Together – plus any other groups that may form) and identifying potential partnerships and ministry opportunities.
Serving on Regional Council – attending the quarterly meetings of the Regional Council of the CCSW (usually a Friday evening and Saturday morning), creating and posting the TBA report to the Regional Council, representing and reporting back to the TBA, and joining in ministry opportunities that develop.
Serving on the Regional Committee on Ministry – serving as the Area Minister for the TBA and taking a turn in the rotation of Area Ministers, interviewing all candidates for ordination originating in the TBA, and acting as the liaison between the TBA / RCOM / area clergy as needed.
Areas of Collaboration (with the Area Minister of Nurture and the Area Ministry Assistant)
The ministers of Connection and Nurture (aided by the Executive Council) collaborate to identify areas of overlap between their responsibilities.  These include:
  • Providing 2-3 special events per year depending on needs identified in the TBA: clergy professional development, elder training, special seminars, spiritual retreats, etc.
  • Participating in the Regional Area Minister Team (weekly conference call)
  • Generating content for area-wide communications: TBA website, Facebook page, monthly newsletter, weekly e-mail update, calendar
  • Overseeing office management – financial responsibilities (taking deposits, signing checks, answering questions), management decisions (providing direction to the Area Ministry Assistant)
  • Meeting RDMC needs (our building) – setting up rooms for meetings, responding to maintenance needs, liaising with tenants, etc.
Desired Skills/Experience – the desired qualifications for candidates seeking this position include:
  • Ordination in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ
  • Managerial experience in a multi-staff environment
  • Residency within the TBA, preferably in Tarrant County 
  • Computer skills
  • Familiarity with “Policies and Criteria for the Order of Ministry”, the process for commissioned ministry in the TBA, the ordination process in the CCSW, and the ethics associated with search and call and working with search committees
  • Ability to multi-task and organize one’s time efficiently
  • Ability to work collaboratively with many individuals and teams
Congregational Year Book Reports Due by March 15

Thanks to the 106 congregations that have submitted their Year Book report already! Click on this link to see if your congregation is one of those! With 383 congregations in the Southwest Region, we have quite a few more to complete their annual report before March 15 to be included in the Year Book and Directory. Your minister, treasurer or other staff or volunteer may complete the form online at by entering your Church PIN and Serial Number. Contact your Area office or the Regional office at or 817-926-4687 if you have questions or challenges in getting the report completed. It would be great to have every congregation submit a report; if you need to call in your info to the Regional office, we'll be glad to take the info for those ten questions over the phone.

Request for Renewal of Standing Due
Ordained Ministers in the Southwest Region who have completed their Request for Renewal of Standing Form will receive their standing cards next week. Ordained Minister who haven't completed the form yet should complete and submit the annual Request for Renewal of Standing for 2017 right away. Links are available on the Information and Links page of the Region's website, or you can complete the online form that will email verification of your submission to you or complete the PDF form to send in by email as an attachment or a hard copy through U.S. mail. 

Commissioned Ministers receive their standing through their Area Committee on Ministry as part of the shared responsibility of the Region and Areas and do not complete this form. Any change of email addresses, phone numbers or mailing addresses, needs to be reported to your Area office promptly so that we can submit updates to the Office of Christian Vocation in time for updating information in the Year Book by February 28. 
Healthy Boundaries Trainings

Last year, the Regional Committee on Ministry required that ministers are to complete a Healthy Boundaries for Clergy training every five years; ministers whose most recent training was before 2011 should complete this requirement by June 2017.

Annual training at Ministers Week in Fort Worth will be Monday, February 20. Training set for First Christian Church in Longview on February 28. Coastal Plains has just set a training for Tuesday, April 4.

"To Be a Faithful Christian in a Secular Culture"

In a time when both conservatives and liberals seem to be running from God’s will, we sense that this is an important topic! There will be translation available for all services, into English when the services are Spanish, into Spanish when the services are English.

Those who wish to attend only the evening services can do so free of charge.  Registration includes four meals and inspiring messages, workshops, and worship during the day. 

In addition to the speakers announced on the flyer, Rev. Enrique Ocasio of Christian Church Foundation and Rev. Rosario Ibarra of Church Extension will be joining us. They are available to preach or lead Bible Studies at any Disciples church (English or Spanish-speaking) on Sunday, June 18. Please let me know if you would like to have one of them at your church.
