The Southwest Region – Standing With You
During the Southwest Region’s recent Regional Council meeting, held January 22-23 in Dallas, Texas, the Regional Council made two significant decisions to support and participate in ministry within the Region.
In response to the devastating tornadoes that struck Garland and Rowlett, Texas, on December 26, 2015, the Region authorized accessing a restricted fund held for disaster relief within the Region. The fund had not been utilized in many years, and the Council believed it was time to put these resources to use to support our brothers and sisters in their recovery and re-building effort. Gifts of $5,000 each were approved to aid First Christian Church Rowlett and Cedar Grove Christian Church. These gifts, along with others, will help these churches meet their insurance deductibles and assist in recovery ministry in the surrounding community. In order to provide more timely response to future disasters, and relying upon the expertise of Week of Compassion, the Council approved sending the remaining balance of the fund, almost $11,000, to Week of Compassion, restricted for “future disaster relief grants in the Southwest Region.”
Additionally, the Council reviewed past activity in the Region’s Permanent Fund for Camp and Conference Development. This fund was established in 1985 to assist with funding of capital improvements in Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) camps within the Southwest Region. Recognizing that grants had not been issued from the fund in many years, the Council approved a distribution of $1,150 each to the four camp and conference centers in the Region: Disciples Crossing in Athens, Texas; Black River Center for Learning in Carlsbad, New Mexico; Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat in Brownwood, Texas; and Disciple Oaks Camp and Retreat in Gonzales, Texas. This distribution will assist all four camp and conference centers with current capital improvement projects. Additionally, the Council approved future annual grants of the income earned by the fund. Future grants will be issued on an annual rotation among the four camps.
The Southwest Region strives to both represent the embodiment of the greater church geographically, and to support our congregations and ministries in tangible ways.

Congregational Year Book Reports Due March 15
(But sooner would be greatly appreciated!)

Year Book Reports from congregations covering calendar year 2015 are due by March 15, covering a few details about membership and finances. This will make sure that your congregation is included in the 2016 Year Book & Directory of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that is filed with the IRS each year to list those congregations that are covered under the group exemption of the denomination. Your church office should have received a post card recently with your congregation's PIN and Serial Number so that you can report online by going to and clicking on the link in the middle of the page for "Congregational Reporting Login." You may save the information you have entered, and return to the form later to complete it, if you need to find other information.

Sample forms in
English and Spanish, as well as instructions, are available at in the third section of the page. Contact Bonnie Schuler in the Southwest Region office at 817-926-4687 or for 1) your congregation's PIN and Serial Number if the postcard didn't make it yet to the person who needs it, 2) a paper copy of the form mailed to you, or 3) assistance in completing the form (helps to have your year-end financial information and tally of membership and attendance information).

Want help? Call in your report to the Southwest Region at 817-926-4687 on Wednesdays in February between 10 am and 2 pm Central time, and a volunteer will enter your report online for you. Provide an email address, and you'll get a copy of the report to proof and save for your files.

Do this online (preferred) or by printing a PDF and sending that in to the Southwest Region office by email at or U.S. mail to the address listed below. If you need a paper copy mailed to you or need assistance, call Bonnie Schuler at 817-926-4687.
