Cookie Walk
First Central's Christmas Treat Extravaganza
This long-time tradition will take place Sunday morning in Memorial Hall.  Holiday cookies, treats, and goodies can be dropped off before worship.  Then grab a cup of coffee and head back to fill your containers (small or large) with festive deliciousness.
Affordable Art Sale
This is the last week to do some holiday shopping at the Affordable Art Sale!  Browse selections from First Central artists in the Parlor after worship.  A portion of all the proceeds will stay with the FCC Art Team for future projects.  What a great way to shop local AND support local artists and First Central at the same time!
Memorial Flowers
There is still time to donate $15 for the purchase of Christmas flowers, greens and decorations for the sanctuary.  After the holidays, many of these items will be donated to hospitalized and home bound members.  Please contact Sara in the church office, or drop your check in the offering plate and note "Christmas Greenery" in the memo line.
HISTORY
SCOTT'S COLUMN
One of the goals I set for 2019 was to read more history.  I began the year reading Svetlana Alexievich’s The Unwomanly Face of War: An Oral History of Women in World War II.  Alexievich interviews Soviet women who fought in the Second World War ... MORE ...
PURSUE WISDOM
EDUCATION NEWS
Sunday's FirstForum will feature Jim & Bonnie Harmon sharing pictures and stories of their recent adventure to China.  Join us in the Third Floor Parlor at 9:15.
CHANGE THE WORLD
OUTREACH NEWS
Donations of NEW hats and mittens and gently-used coats are still being accepted in the pretty wrapped boxes in the Narthax.  Items will be given to our friends at the Siena Francis house.  In January, we will begin to collect new and gently used blankets, so if you see some great sales while you are holiday shopping - stock up!

In our prayers today, we hear the call to prepare the way of the Lord in southern Mexico.  Global Ministries invites us to pray with Mexico this week.

"It has been my honor to serve the United Church of Christ (as well as the Disciples of Christ) through Global Ministries in Colombia, as a human rights worker, for the past twelve years. I am not sure there could have been a more meaningful or interesting country in which to work for human rights over this time period."  Read an update from your Global Ministries representative in Colombia.
FEED YOUR SPIRIT
WORSHIP NEWS
Next Sunday, December 22nd,  the First Central Jazz Band will be featured during worship with several new, original carol arrangements by Kelly Beaman.

And don't forget that there will be TWO worship services on Christmas Eve at 6 PM and 11 PM.

The Words of Her Mouth: Psalms for the Struggle listens to and wrestles with ancient poems through the lenses of modern women.  New from Pilgrim Press.

CAROLING!
Join the choir (and friends of the choir) next Wednesday, December 18th, for some Christmas fellowship. SIGN UP NOW for a light supper, followed by caroling, and yummy desserts.  We are planning three caravans this year, so it is very important to RSVP to Sara in the office by Sunday so we can plan food and vehicles appropriately!
