Hello Friends,

I hope you are enjoying life these days, one way and another.

Summer is the time of year when I can work in my studio - and sometimes outdoors in our backyard - with very few interruptions.  I have been taking full advantage of this situation and loving it!

I'm writing to let you know that my work will be exhibited in a couple of places during August and September.

First, in conjunction with a few other Edmonton galleries,
The Front Gallery is having an exhibition of all their women artists in August.  Some of my new Augury Sketches will be included in this exhibition.

Opening reception is Wednesday, August 8 from 7-9pm.  Do come out if you can!
A few of the Augury Sketches.  I'm very pleased with these new paintings, as they represent a significant evolution in my work.  Here they are in my studio being framed.

In September I will be participating in Art Now in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  This year's art fair is slated to be the largest one to date, with galleries and artists from across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  My paintings, along with works by several other excellent Alberta artists, will be displayed in the Art Calgary space.

I'm feeling excited to show in Saskatoon again so soon after the G9 exhibition, which was well received.

Art Now takes place September 20-23, 2018.  If you are in town during that weekend, come and check it out!
A very casual photo of some of the paintings I'll be showing at Art Now.
They will be properly framed for exhibition, of course.  :)

Lastly, I finally joined the Sketchbook Project!  I've received my sketchbook and have begun working in it.

In February 2019 I'll send it back to the Brooklyn Art Library.  The sketchbooks go on a tour (I'm not sure of the itinerary yet), and then are placed in the BAL's permanent collection of 40 000+ sketchbooks from all over the world.  This collection is open to the public, so if you are in the area you would be able to check it out in person.  What fun!  There is also an online gallery of the sketchbooks, which I may or may not opt into.  One step at a time :)

One does not need to identify as a professional artist in order to participate in the Sketchbook Project.  If you've ever thought you'd like to leave a legacy of your words and/or images in a public collection, here is a wonderful way to do so.  Go for it!
I've received my sketchbook and have begun working in it.  What fun!
Thank you as always for your interest in my work and studio doings.  Your support is very much appreciated.

Until next time,

Verna Vogel
