Tennessee Business Education Association (TBEA) Conference

Please make plans to attend the TBEA Conference on September 23-24, 2016. The conference will be held at:

The Miller Education Center
Jones College of Business Executive Education Center
503 East Bell Street
Murfreesboro, TN 37130

The conference will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 23 and conclude with the TBEA Awards and Business Luncheon at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 24. For more information about the conference, including the preliminary schedule, the pre-registration form and the hotel directory, please click here.

All participants will need to make their own lodging arrangements. However, there are many hotels only a short distance from the conference site. Please print, complete, and mail your TBEA: Evolution or Revolution conference registration form with your payment to the TBEA treasurer by Friday, September 9 to avoid a late registration fee:

TBEA (Attn: Cindy Hunter)
3543 Meadowwood Drive
Murfreesboro, TN 37128

Additional TBEA conference information can be found on the TBEA website, or you can contact Kay Blasingame-Boike, president-elect, at Kay.Blasingame-Boike@mtsu.edu. We look forward to seeing you, and several other Tennessee FBLA advisers, at the conference!

Spring ACT Test Date for Juniors and SLC

A few concerns have been shared about the statewide ACT test date for juniors (March 21, 2017) being scheduled during the Tennessee FBLA State Leadership Conference (SLC). Here are a few recommendations from Casey Haugner (Executive Director of Student Readiness & Early Postsecondary) and Jerre Maynor (Director of Student Readiness):
  1. This year, we are not only presenting the initial testing date of March 21, but a make‐up test date of April 19 and an emergency make‐up test date of May 3 are available as well. Schools and districts that have a large number of students with conflicts can elect to offer the April or May dates rather than the March date.
  2. If a school decides to test on March 21, but a small number of students will be absent, those students can utilize the April 19 make‐up test date at their home schools.
  3. If a student is unable to test at school on any of the state administration dates, they can receive a voucher that will allow them to take the test on a national test date (Saturday testing) by registering for the ACT with the free registration code on the voucher.
These alternatives should be decided by your district personnel and school administration, and hopefully they will allow all of your FBLA juniors to participate in SLC as planned. Please contact Jerre Maynor at Jerre.Maynor@tn.gov to discuss other options if necessary.
