State Advisor for SkillsUSA & TSA Position Update

The department is seeking a State Advisor for SkillsUSA and TSA; the application for the position will be posted on Feb. 13. We encourage interested individuals to consider applying for the position and will release more details regarding the application process in the coming weeks.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Brittany Debity-Barker, Director of Student Leadership, at Brittany.Debity-Barker@tn.gov.

Culinary Arts and Commercial Baking Update

The 2019 SkillsUSA Culinary Arts, Commercial Baking, and Restaurant Service contests will take place in Chattanooga during the State Leadership and Skills Conference. While the intent was to have a qualifying event to ease the burden on the Chattanooga locations, the communication did not receive all schools and advisors. Due to this, we felt that is in the best interest of the students to hold the events in Chattanooga with the other state level contests this year. Please see the Culinary Arts Update and the Commercial Baking Update for important information regarding the Culinary Arts and Commercial Baking competitions.

Tennessee SkillsUSA apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please reach out to us with any questions. Any future changes to these events will be posted here https://www.skillsusatn.org/state-updates-and-equipment-lists.html.

Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Regional Update

The Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair contest took the place of the four single shot contests. Therefore, a school can only have one (1) competitor in this contest. The top four MLR competitors from each region will advance to the State Leadership and Skills Conference in Chattanooga.

If your school registered more than one Automotive MLR contestant, only one of them will be able to compete at the regional conference.

Welding Fabrication Regional Update

The Welding Fabrication regional contest will be a written test only based off of the attached document. All three team members must take the exam at the regional contest. As with all other SkillsUSA contests, only one team from each school may compete in this event. The top three (3) teams from each region will advance to the State Leadership and Skills Conference.
