Pet Parade This Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 PM
Thanks to the magnificent efforts of Jen and Mitch, the Howlin' Halloween Pet Parade will take place again this year on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 PM, starting in front of 310 West 55th. Awards for best costumes will be announced at the end of the evening. Come one, come all. Even if you don't have a pet, this is a fun even that is not to be missed.
Sav-A-Tree will start hanging lights on Nov. 18. We have also contracted with them to prune two of our older trees, with multiple hanging limbs, on the block.
Donations Needed for 40th Annual Tree Lighting!
Thanks to all who have donated so far to the 40th annual tree lighting campaign. As of Oct. 27th, we have raised about $8900. We need to raise another $600 (for a total of $9500) to hang the lights on Nov. 18 and then raise another $3000 to take them down in February of 2020. We've managed to cover these expenses for eleven years in a row, so this is completely do-able!!!
There are two ways to contribute:
1) You can donate online via PayPal or credit card by going to our website: west55ba.org and clicking on the yellow "Donate" button in the lower left hand corner.
2) Or you can make out a check payable to "The West 55th Street Block Association" and drop it off with one of the doormen at 345 West 55th Street (attention Susan Malbin, Treasurer). See donation form at the end of this newsletter.
Early Voting Comes to New York City
Early voting has been a major goal of many good government groups in New York. This allows people to vote on days, including weekends, other than Election Day. The hope is that this will allow more people to vote--especially those who have trouble getting off work on Tuesdays. One of things that Democrats did after they won the majority of seats in Albany during last year's midterms was to pass an early voting law. The Nov. 5 election this year will be the first to have early voting.
Please note: our polling location (both north and south sides of the block) will be John Jay North Hall at 445 West 59th Street for early voting days. Anyone who votes on Nov. 5 must go back to our regular polling booth at PS111, 440 West 52nd.
