Unemployment and Other Help

A lot of people have told me that they are having trouble getting through to the Unemployment Office either on the phone or Internet. If you're still having trouble, try giving a call to one of our elected officials. Four of them (or their reps) were on the West55BA Zoom chat we had last Wednesday and all said they could help. These folks represent us and are reaching out to help (and once again we see why participating in elections is so important). See below for names, email and phone contacts:

From Madison Marlow in Manhattan Borough President  Gale Brewer's Office:  I recommend subscribing to Gale’s daily newsletter to stay updated on the most recent COVID-19 news and resources: https://www.manhattanbp.nyc.gov/signup/

Additionally, our office continues to address constituent needs during this time. Please reach out to our office at mmarlow@manhattanbp.nyc.gov or call 212-669-2527 should you have any questions, concerns, or need to anything else.

From Maia in Sen. Brad Hoylman’s office:  Our Constituent Resource Guide has key facts, resources, and contacts. We are continually updating with new information, including resources for small businesses. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KwhzqVbvHKVpjRBQz1kLy9Va-Rml_4oiY0prS8L-WUA/edit

We are also connecting people with organizations in need of volunteers at this time. If you are interested in this you can fill out the form here: https://forms.gle/F1N7xnWprcn4NPPB9

If you need anything you should also feel free to reach out to our office at hoylman@nysenate.gov or (212) 633-8052

From Carl Wilson in New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson's office: You can pass my cell phone along to any neighbor who needs it. 646-581-8584

Folks can also email Speakerjohnson@gmail.com if there is a more city-wide issue they need to discuss.

From Emily Bartosek in Assembly Member Linda B. Rosenthall’s office: You can reach me at 212-873-6368, bartose@nyassembly.gov, or rosenthall@nyassembly.gov if you have any questions or concerns!

DIY Flower Bed Planting This Year

We should probably count on individual rather than group planting in our flower beds this year. So please consider buying some seeds or seedlings if you can find them, then clean and plant any beds in front of your building. Maybe you can join forces with a couple of neighbors and pick days and beds to fill.

We should be safe from frost from now going forward.

My suggestion is to try coleus for the shady areas (that is to say most of the block). Zinnias might work for very sunny spots.

Look forward to seeing some new growth on the block. Send me a picture if you'd like to share.

Stay healthy and be well!
