Christmas greetings from the international English for Nurses Team!

As another year draws to a close, we would like to take a moment to extend our very warmest Christmas wishes to all of our course graduates, colleagues, friends and supporters of our international nursing network.

It's been a hugely exciting and surprising year for English for Nurses with our work taking us to new hospitals and cities throughout the UK, Germany and the rest of Europe.

Our disappointment at the UK referendum result in June has only strengthened our resolve to continue and expand our work.  Beyond the newspaper headlines, we understand that overseas nurses, midwives and doctors will always remain a vital part of the NHS, working alongside excellent British healthcare professionals to provide the best possible service.  Equally, as wards in Germany and the rest of Europe become increasingly diverse and international, communication in English continues to be an indispensable skill for nurses within the EU.

There have been many highlights in 2016.  These include working with the German Army with our course "English for International Disaster Nursing".  It's always a pleasure and a privilege to work with these remarkable and dedicated people who do vital humanitarian work throughout the world.

This year saw the introduction of our brand new course "German for Nurses'', which has proven to be extremely popular and has now been voted as one of the top 10 courses in Zurich.  We have also continued to expand our teaching programme for the module-based course "English for Midwives", ensuring that many more midwives can communicate confidently, safely and professionally with their patients and colleagues.  We have enjoyed typically action-packed teaching tours in Germany, including "English for Hospital Administrators", "English for Paediatric Nurses" and our longest-running course - "English for Nurses".

We are just happy that our three and a half years so far have been such a great joy and adventure.

We love flying the flag for
nurses everywhere.

One area of our organisation that we are particularly passionate about is our work with British and European student nurses. Via the Erasmus+ programme we have been able to help facilitate the international exchange of dozens of student nurses.  The UK has always been a beacon of quality and professionalism in nursing and the opportunity of a work-placement in private/NHS hospitals has proven to be of tremendous value to our European students.  Cumbria NHS has been a great supporter of this programme.

We are delighted to have forged new exchange and teaching relationships in the NHS with Medway and the Avon & Wiltshire partnership.  We have also been able to arrange for nursing experts from Germany to visit British hospitals and teaching institutions. Sharing knowledge and skills is fundamental to English for Nurses.

Nursing experts from Hamburg take a tour of the medical education facilities at the University of the West of England, Bristol, UK.  EfN are also based in Bristol.   A special thanks to Bella Ware, our co-op partner.

As well as another busy teaching schedule, we are also looking forward to some very interesting developments and events in 2017.  By popular request we will be releasing our teaching material on audio-cd so our students can strengthen their knowledge and pronunciation more easily after our workshops. This will also be an important companion to our new range of online modules, which we will be expanding next year.  Finally, one exciting event at the end of 2017 will be the 14th European Nurse Directors Association (ENDA) Congress in November. The congress will take place in beautiful Croatia.  English for Nurses will be there to represent our international nursing network - See you there!

We would like to thank all the nurses, Chief Nurses, staff and supporters of our organisation. We extend an extra special thank you to our patron - Professor Jacqui Filkins.

Finally, thank you ALL for the vital work you do in healthcare - wherever you are! EfN wish you the very best for a happy & healthy 2017.
