The first JPI Oceans conference is open to the marine and maritime science community, policy makers, NGOs and industry representatives and network organisations. The conference will present:
- The JPI Oceans Vision and Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda - Priorities for marine and maritime research in Europe and perspectives for future joint activities.
- The JPI Oceans joint actions including the actions on ecological aspects of deep sea mining and micro-plastics, the multi-use of infrastructure for monitoring and intercalibration for the EU Water Framework Directive.
- The outcomes of CSA Oceans, the EU FP7 Support Action aimed to facilitate the implementation of JPI Oceans in its startup phase.
The Joint Programming Initiative Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans (JPI Oceans) is an intergovernmental coordinating and integrating platform covering all European sea basins. It focuses on making better and more efficient use of national research budgets, which represent 88% of the research funding within Europe.

Time and venue
The conference will take place at the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts, in Brussels, Belgium on 7 May 2015 from 09:30 to 17:30.
Early hotel reservation is highly recommended as the specific period is expected to be busy in Brussels and the amount of rooms could be limited. The organisation made block reservations in different hotels near the conference venue.
