Dear colleagues,

As I write this, I am looking out of my office window and watching the cranes as they prepare the ground for the expansion of the Catalunya Campus. This is a noisy task and it reminds me of how long we have been waiting for the building work to start on this bit of land. Well, that moment has finally arrived and we will soon, I hope, have a brand new building for our colleagues and students from the FCEP!

To summarize my own tasks over the last two months, I will start with my visit to Moscow (in January!!), which led to the creation of a new network of Russian and Spanish universities. The aim of the project is to foster the mobility of students and academic and administrative staff between all participating institutions, the Russian universities being particularly interested in sending students to our programmes. I really look forward to seeing how this project develops.

I also attended the AUIP meeting (Asociación Universitaria Iberoamericana de Postgrado). As you know, this association helps us to publicise our Master’s and Doctoral programmes and the related grants. The association is really active so I encourage you to visit their webpage.

Once again, the students from Hiroshima University have visited us in a now well-known Study Abroad Programme and have attended classes held by the department of Public Law and the Centre for Hispanic Studies. I would also like to mention that Dr Abdelali El Aroudi attended the Study Abroad fair at the International University of Rabat and also established collaboration in teaching and research projects. He was able to visit the UIR thanks to the Erasmus+ KA107 grant managed by the International Center.

I also had the opportunity to interview two students who went to the international students’ conference in Bali: Daphne Jumilla and Enric Prats. It was great to get to know their experience first-hand. Their attendance at the conference was organised with the help of the I-Networks grant and it was the second time that the URV sent students.

Finally, I strongly recommend that you read the interview with the Mexican I-Global students Rosalba Lilia Bollás and Diego A. Urbina. The URV’s I-Global programme allows students and staff from other institutions to spend time at the URV in an academic or non-academic capacity without the need for an inter-institutional mobility agreement.

So, with spring well and truly upon us, I wish you all the best until the next international newsletter!
