News in brief

  • Santander Iberoamèrica grants for URV undergraduates
During the 2017-18 academic year a total of 10 URV students will be able to benefit from the Beques Iberoamèrica - Santander Grado (Santander Ibero-American Undergraduate Grants). The grants are worth €3000 and enable students to carry out mobility visits at universities that are members of the Santander grants programme. The grants promote student exchanges to universities in Ibero-America, thus helping to strengthen the Ibero-American Knowledge Area. Since the URV and Banco Santander signed the agreement during the 2012-13 academic year, a total of 45 URV students have benefitted from Santander Ibero-American Undergraduate Grants. The programme has covered various knowledge areas such as Social and Cultural Anthropology, Advertising and Public Relations, Nursing, Social Work, Law, Human Nutrition, Architecture, Chemical Engineering and History, and the host countries have been Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Chile.
  • I-Networks programme opens second application period
The second application period for the I-Networks programme for teaching staff, administrative staff and students is open from 16 January to 30 January 2017 inclusive. There are three application periods over the course of the academic year for this programme, which seeks to encourage the university community to participate in the activities of networks of which the URV is a member. There was a great deal of interest among the students during the first period with all 10 places being filled, but lower demand among the teaching and administrative staff, with 2 of the 8 available places being filled, which means that the 6 remaining places are also available in this second application period. There will be a third (and last) application period for the I-Networks programme from 3 to 17 April 2017.
  • Application period opens for STT and STA mobility programmes
The second application period for the Erasmus STT (staff mobility for training) and Erasmus STA (staff training for teaching) programmes is open from 16 January to 6 February 2017 inclusive. In this second period 6 STT places and 7 STA places are on offer. The first application period was met with great interest as 25 people applied for 6 STT places and 14 applied for 8 STA places. In a new development, this year the programmes are being offered under the auspices of the Erasmus+ International programme, thus generating new STA destinations in Japan (2 places, one already filled in the first application period), Vietnam (2 places) and Kazakhstan (1 place).

Hi all!

Here we are again! 2017 has started with many interesting prospects, projects, news and avenues to explore! There’s no chance of us getting bored! And the first change I should mention is one that affects the distribution of this newsletter.

From now on, a subscription system has been put in place. So don’t miss out! Stay tuned to all the international news by subscribing –for free, of course- to this newsletter and continue to receive it in your inbox! This way you will not only know what is happening internationally at our university, but you will also find out about opportunities, grants or new programmes that may be of interest to you. Do it now so that you do not forget later!

Apart from this, I am happy to wish you a very happy and prosperous 2017. We all know that it is a difficult time for internationalisation given the current global circumstances, but it is in turbulent times such as these that we need to fight the hardest to preserve basic human rights around the world and to combat ignorance with education, xenophobia with tolerance, and closeness with openness. The URV is committed to tolerance and being open to all and we continue to participate in many mobility programmes within and outside the borders of Europe.

In the coming semester alone these programmes will bring 186 students to our institution, and a total of 445 over the whole year! We are also finishing the process of assigning places to approximately 556 outgoing students (mobility for studies and internships) who have applied for this amazing chance to live and study abroad during the 2018-19 academic year! We are very proud of all of those students and staff who want to open their minds, experience another culture, meet new people and have the experience of a lifetime. Good luck to all of those applying!

Have a look at the many more interesting items of news in this newsletter and remember that you can send us international news to We look forward to hearing from you! My very best wishes for a peaceful, brilliant, exciting and international 2017!
