   No. 11 - January/February, 2016

Dear friends and colleagues,

In this newsletter you can find, as usual, the latest news regarding the URV’s international activities, visits, conferences and so on. But first allow me to highlight what I believe to be the most important news at this point: the approval by the URV’s Governing Council of the DANG plan and of the new Mobility Regulations.

The DANG Plan is a strategy with two main objectives to implement more and better English teaching at our university. The first is to develop a coherent, consistent and continuous range of courses in English across the university’s degree programmes (i.e. through multilingual degree tracks, full master’s degrees, etc.). And the second, of utmost importance, is to ensure the quality of teaching in English through a training plan for lecturers. It is an ambitious plan which will contribute a great deal to the internationalisation of our institution and also make it much more attractive to international students.

In a separate development, the Mobility Regulations have been updated to meet the present needs of students and have been broadened to include not only international mobility but also mobility within Spain. They also cover the mobility options offered to professors and administrative staff as well as a new type of mobility called I-Global, which classifies both students and academic staff who come to the URV without forming part of a specific agreement or programme (these individuals were previously called freemovers in the case of students or visitors in the case of researchers or professors).

I am certain that these three new proposals will greatly assist the URV achieve its internationalisation objectives.

I must also make a brief mention of the visit to the URV on 19 February by Amadeu Altafaj, Permanent Representative of the Catalan Government to the European Union, who delivered a talk entitled “Catalonia, a European present and future”. We have also had the opportunity to meet the new Moroccan Consul in Tarragona, Mr Abdelaziz Jatim.

In other news, the URV has launched the I-Network programme to encourage the university community to participate in the activities of the various international university networks of which the URV is member.

And finally, just a few words to wish the best of luck to our new Master’s Programme Support Office! I am sure that the Office will become one of our best assets in ensuring the excellence of our postgraduate programmes.

Vice-Rector for Internationalisation
