   No. 10 - November/December, 2015

Dear colleagues,

I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season. With the start of the new semester, this month’s newsletter aims to give keep you up to date about the international news that has taken place at the URV since our last newsletter. But before starting I would like, once again, to invite you to send your international news to be published in future editions of our newsletter.

You can send the information in English, Catalan or Spanish and we will make sure that it appears in our following number. Your contributions are very much welcome! Please send them to international.newsletter@urv.cat

In 2015 many foreign institutions visited the URV with the aim of establishing relations with the URV at all levels.

In November, we received a visit from Dr Larisa Svaga, the Rector of the University of Moldova, who has very good relations with our Faculty of Economics, particularly with Dr Victòria Sánchez and Dr Glòria Barberà. In November, Dr Fouhad Nohra, the Director of CEDS, signed an agreement with our university to help his institution increase its number of doctoral degree graduates.

In December, we welcomed a delegation from the Chinese Consulate headed by Mr Tang Heng, the Consul General of China in Barcelona. Just before Christmas holidays, we received a delegation from the University of Jinggangshan in China. I should also mention the large delegation from Kazakhstan led by Ms Shaizada Tasbulatova, Coordinator of the National Erasmus+ Office in Kazakhstan, who was accompanied by representatives from many Kazakh universities.

In January, the Rector of the University of Algiers III also visited us at the request of the URV’s Dr Enric Olivé. During the same month, I had a meeting with Mr Mikhail Medvedev, the president of the Catalan-Russian Association for Scientific and Cultural Cooperation, who gave us information about some very interesting grants that our students could benefit from.

I also met our partners from the Santander Group to agree on the basis of a new project called AMICS (AcadeMIc Collaboration for the Internationalisation of Studies), which I hope will help promote our master’s degrees abroad.

I am writing this newsletter from Brussels where I have attended the presentation of a new office of the CRUE-CRUP (Spain-Portugal). This means that for the first time Spain and Portugal are going to share a “physical space” in Brussels that can be used by any member of the Spanish and Portuguese universities. So if you need a place to meet there, feel free to book a room!

Wishing you all the best for 2016!

Mar Gutiérrez-Colón Plana

Vice-Rector for Internationalisation
