On May 9, Guatemalan composer and flutist Gabriel Yela performed Telemann’s Twelve Fantasies for unaccompanied flute as the initial concert in a series of chamber music concerts in his country.
Misa hispánica, by Miguel Angel Santaella, was given its world premier performance by the Rapsodia Chamber Chorus in Maturín, Venezuela, on June 24. The ensemble was conducted by Guillermo Brazón.
Samuel Robles conducted the orchestra of the University of Panama in a program of music by Mozart and Schubert on July 10. Luisana Rivas, soprano, sang excerpts from The Marriage of Figaro, and Edward José Ballesteros, oboe, performed the second movement of the Mozart oboe concerto.
Luis Pérez Valero’s work, Danzón para momentos tristes for guitar orchestra, will be premiered on July 27 at the Municipal Theater in Valencia, Venezuela. In addition, Luis received an honorable mention in the Fifth Annual Counterpoint International Competition 2014.
Federico Núñez’s work, Arista insonora, for clarinet and string bass, will be premiered at the BA-CIC 2014 festival in Bahía Blanca, Argentina. More details as they come in...
