Round Table on Childhood Language Impairment

There is growing international debate around the terminology and definition of language impairment, in particular the use of the label "specific language impairment".

In Australia, the definition of language impairment differs across the states and territories.

In September, the Centre of Research Excellence in Child Language will host a "round table" to facilitate national discussion about language impairment terminology, diagnosis, and subsequent service allocation. Practice, policy and research experts from around Australia will participate.

Following the round table, the recommendations will be outlined in a discussion paper. Register your interest in this discussion paper below.

About Us

The Centre of Research Excellence in Child Language is a collaboration of child language experts from the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and Griffith, Newcastle (UK), Deakin and La Trobe Universities. It investigates how language and hearing impact early development; what can go wrong, when and why; and how to assess and intervene effectively to improve children's language.
