(our SARRAH Research fellow) and our President Rob visiting Canberra.
Notification of SARRAH Annual General Meeting
The next annual general meeting (AGM) of the members of Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) will be held on 29 November 2019.

Details of the meeting are as follows:
Date: 29 November 2019
Time: 12:00PM Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT)
Place: Held via Zoom (details are included in the agenda).

Notification of Ballot for SARRAH Board Positions
Six members have nominated for the five positions available on the SARRAH Board consequently, in accordance with Clause 11.8(iii) of the SARRAH Constitution an election will need to be held at the 2019 AGM.

A ballot will be held to elect five members to the SARRAH Board of Directors. Six members have nominated for the five positions and each candidate has provided a brief statement supporting their nomination. Papers will be emailed to members today, and will also be available on the member section of the website.

Ballot notification and a voting form will be emailed to members today. Your completed Ballot must be returned to SARRAH by email to by no later than Close of Business Friday 22 November 2019, and documentation is also available on the SARRAH website, or by contacting the office

NOTE: You must be a fully financial, individual member of SARRAH to nominate for a position. Completed nomination forms must be lodged with SARRAH by close of business on Friday 1 November 2019.
SARRAH Photo Competition has been extended until 30 November 2019
Thank you to those who have already submitted photos they are fantastic, but keep them coming in.

NSW Rural Allied Health Clinical Placement Grants
Open from: 27 January 2020 to 3 April 2020
NSW Rural Allied Health Clinical Placement Grants provide financial assistance to both rural and urban allied health students with the travel and accommodation costs of rural clinical placements.

Placement grants of up to $750 (or $1,000 for placements at Broken Hill) are offered each semester. Grants are awarded on the basis of the duration of the placement and the cost of travel associated with accessing the placement.

Priority will be given to students who have not previously received a NSW Rural Allied Health Clinical Placement Grant, though past grant recipients may apply.

Aged Care Royal Commission Community Forums
The Royal Commission into Aged Care has announced details of its upcoming community forums in Canberra and Newcastle. The Royal Commission community forums are an opportunity for members of the local community to hear about the work of the Royal Commission and to offer ideas on the challenges, strengths and opportunities to improve aged care. Commissioner Lynelle Briggs AO will be present. See:

Governance of approved providers of aged care
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety will hold a hearing in Hobart, Tasmania, from Monday 11 November to Friday 15 November 2019.
The hearing will examine the operations of two approved providers of aged care services, and will explore ways to improve the governance of aged care providers.

More information about the Hobart Hearing can be found on the Royal Commission website. Guidance on how to make a submission to the Royal Commission can be found on the Submissions page. The hearing will commence at 10:00am on Monday 11 November 2019 and will be held at the Derwent Room, Wrest Point, 410 Sandy Bay Rd, Sandy Bay, Hobart 7005.

A witness list will be available to view on the website on Sunday afternoon.

$90 million boost for indigenous health - The Government has announced they are investing an additional $90 million over three years in the Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme (IAHP), to further support the delivery of culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care.
$67.6 million to support National Critical Care and Trauma response centre and new facilities - The Morrison Government has formalised $67.6 million for Northern Territory critical infrastructure, to expand Australia’s capacity to respond to disasters and health emergencies in Australia and the surrounding region.
Working to reduce youth suicide in Alice Springs - Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, has used his visit to Alice Springs to meet with and hear from local organisations who are working to address youth suicide in the region.
Medibank provides update on outlook for FY20 - Medibank today provided additional information regarding its full year 2020 outlook, which was released to the market at the full year 2019 financial results on 22 August 2019.

Significant progress made on the National Digital Health Strategy - The Australian Digital Health Agency 2018-19 Annual Report has been tabled in the Australian Parliament, outlining the Agency’s outcomes and operations between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019.
