Notice of an Appeal (Kerosine Light (IRE)) to be heard by the Disciplinary Panel on Thursday 4 August

03/08/2022 @ 12:00:00

9.30 am - Mark Kelly Racing Syndicate

The independent Disciplinary Panel of the British Horseracing Authority will convene on Thursday 4 August 2022 to hear an Appeal brought by Mark Kelly Racing Syndicate, the owners of KEROSINE LIGHT (IRE), against the decision of the Stewards at Cartmel on 16 July 2022 to reverse the placings following the William Hill Lengthen Your Odds Novices’ Hurdle Race (Class 4) (GBB Race).

An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final half furlong when the winner, KEROSINE LIGHT (IRE), ridden by Peter Kavanagh, interfered with BRIGHT SUNBIRD (IRE), placed second, ridden by Tabitha Worsley. The Stewards considered that the interference had improved KEROSINE LIGHT (IRE)’s placing as, in drifting right-handed on the run to the line BRIGHT SUNBIRD (IRE) had been carried off its intended line for several strides by KEROSINE LIGHT (IRE), which as a consequence cost the mare ground, with the distance between the two runners at the line being a head. The Stewards therefore revised the placings as follows: First, BRIGHT SUNBIRD (IRE); Second, KEROSINE LIGHT (IRE); Third, ZUMBI (GER). Kavanagh was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to hang right-handed without sufficient correction, causing BRIGHT SUNBIRD (IRE) to be carried off its intended line.
