Southend Carers...

Southend Carers is delighted to announce it has bagged £4,000 from the Tesco’s Bags of Help community grant scheme.

Bags of Help is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, and sees grants awarded to thousands of local community projects every year.  Since launching in 215, it’s provided more than £71 million to over 23,000 local community projects.

Millions of shoppers have voted in Tesco stores up and down the country and it can now be revealed Southend Carers has been awarded £4,000.

Work will now begin on bringing our project to life which will enhance our Young Carers programme of activities in the Southend area.

Is for kids aged 5-11 years and it will run every Tuesday from 23rd April to 23rd July 2019

Young Carers Forum - How our young carers see themselves
Young Carers aged 11-18 years - Our Youth Forum is a monthly Youth Club where you get to socialise with other Young Carers over pizza, create some fun awareness raising projects and organise days out together.  Our YC's are currently designing their own digital newsletter, writing their own content, creating visuals, etc - it's a great space to get things off your chest, meet other YC's going through similar stuff to you and having time to chill.

Healthwatch has launched ‘What Would You Do?’ to gather feedback from the public on ways to improve local NHS services. Your views matter.


Therapy for You @TherapyForYouEPUT
(which is an NHS talking therapies provider) are running a campaign specifically aimed at people living within the Southend and Castle Point and Rochford localities.  Their services are free and support those with depression, anxiety and much more, offered in a number of ways, from 1-2-1 sessions to phone therapy, online therapy to video calls.

What's coming up in May...

Sun Awareness Week ~ 6th-12th May 2019
The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) currently runs a national campaign around skin cancer called Sun Awareness, which includes national Sun Awareness Week in May. This campaign is overseen by the BAD's Skin Cancer Prevention Committee, comprised of leading medical professionals with expertise in skin cancer, vitamin D and public health messaging.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 ~ Monday 13 - Sunday 19 May 2019
Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 will take place from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 May 2019. The theme for 2019 is Body Image – how we think and feel about our bodies.
Dementia Action Week ~ 20 - 26 May 2019
Unites people, workplaces, schools and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.  


Dementia Friends
Caring for a person with dementia can be a rewarding experience. But we also know that it can be very challenging at times. Alzheimer's Society's new guide for carers is here to help. It contains support and advice on all aspects of supporting someone with dementia.
Golden-Oldies singalong with Rob Cadman
This friendly session is specifically for people living with dementia and their carers.

Join Rob Cadman for an hour of fun and laughter on theFOURTH WEDNESDAY of the month.  Golden-Oldies singalong session funded by Southend BC.

Did you know that May is National Walking Month?
So why not help celebrate by organising your own walk this May and raise money for our life saving research.

Why walk?
Being active helps reduce your risk of developing a heart or circulatory condition, as well as having a stroke, type 2 diabetes, obesity and osteoporosis.


Thinking Ahead to Summer...

Free mid-summer sports day and fun festival for disabled people - Saturday 27th July

The day is being hosted by Lions of South East Essex and will take place on Saturday 27th July 2019 at The King John School, Benfleet Road, Benfleet, Essex SS7 1RG.

What's on in Southend this May...

The Southend Carers Hub is a partnership of specialist local charities who have joined together to create a one-stop-shop for carers.

Commissioned by Adult Social Care (Southend Borough Council), we believe that by working together, we can make it much easier for Carers in Southend-on-Sea to access the right practical, financial and emotional support.
