Southend Carers...
Carers Rights Day is on 30 November 2018 and the theme is ‘Caring for Your Future’.

There are almost 18,000 unpaid carers in Southend but it’s often not something they planned for.  Carers Rights day is an opportunity to bring organisations together to help carers know their rights and find out how to get the help and support they are entitled to.

When someone is focusing on the person they support they can often disregard their own needs.  Southend Carers Hub services including; respite breaks, support groups, counselling, advice and information can help carers find a balance between their caring role and staying healthy.  Here are our top tips to get the BALANCE right;

B - taking a Break can help you feel refreshed.
A - reliable, clear Advice can help you feel more in control.
L - strengthen and Look to the positive parts of your relationships and caring role.
A - adopt an Active and healthy lifestyle.
N - keep Notes of appointments, to-do lists and important information in one place.
C - identify the Care needs you can do and those you need help with.
E - Emotional support is vital. Share your feelings with someone you trust.
However caring affects you, we’re here to support.
What are you planning for Carers Rights Day??

World COPD Day will be on 21 November
Millions of people across the UK have COPD and don’t even know it. They’re struggling with their symptoms and a lower quality of life. Their condition is progressing quickly because they’re not receiving treatment.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month
The aim of the campaign is to encourage people displaying the common symptoms of lung cancer, such as a persistent cough, breathlessness or unexplained weight-loss, to visit their GP.

What's on in Southend this November...

Southend Carers Hub is a new partnership of six specialist local charities who have joined together to create a one-stop-shop for carers.

Commissioned by Adult Social Care (Southend Borough Council), we believe that by working together, we can make it much easier for Carers in Southend-on-Sea to access the right practical, financial and emotional support.
