Procrastination and perfection will always delay you - it's important to just start.
SEPTEMBER IS - Dementia Awareness Month - is to encourage Australians to become dementia-aware, have a better understanding of what it is like for a person to live with dementia, and ultimately be encouraged to create communities where people with dementia are supported to live a high quality of life with meaning, purpose and value. The theme for 2016 is "You are not alone".

Hope you enjoy this issue of basically business

BUSINESS INSIGHTS Most of us have a product or service that could suit many people but we can't be everything to everyone. Identifying your ideal client or Avatar will be the most important thing you do in your business.

Understanding the lifestyle of your Avatar, their shopping habits, lifestyle habits, age group and concerns that keep them awake at night, will give you the focus to advertise and market directly to them.

Additionally your ideal client is the person that sees the value in employing your services, actively seeks out your advice and is willing to pay you what you’re worth.

Being clear on your ideal client's profile also enables referral partners, clients, and customers to refer people to you.

ENTREPRENEUR REVIEW - This month Jackie Dee shares some things about herself and being in the music business.

Business name - Jackie Dee

Website Jackie Dee

How did the business originate?  At the time of recording my debut EP in 2010 I registered an ABN for Jackie Dee.

How long have you been in this business? Unprofessionally since aged 13

What do you love about your business?   I love making music, I love the writing and recording process and performing live gives me a huge buzz.

Is there anything you dislike? I dislike the competing demands of two differing careers, one as a professional counselor and one as a singer-songwriter. The former largely funds the latter. I dislike that it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain viable as an independent artist, very little funding opportunities available. It is enormously hard work to stay motivated in the face of these difficulties, but music is my creative outlet and my passion for it drives me forward.

Favourite food: I love good quality Indian food

Favourite colour:  that changes each day but I’ve always loved purple

Favourite drink: soy latte, sav Blanc, and vegetable juices but not all at once

Favourite movie: Titanic

Favourite time of the day: when all the chores are finished at night around 9pm

Favourite item in your office: my guitar

Favourite app on your phone/tablet/computer: Facebook

What book are you reading right now? The Body keeps the Score (Bessell Van der Kolk)

Which 3 people (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party? Why? My great grandmother because there are so many questions I never got to ask her, Robin Williams because I adored everything about his work and his creativity fascinated me, Jamie Oliver because I love his accent, watching him cook and he could cook the dinner for us all while I drank wine.

Name 3 things on your bucket list:  To publish my memoir (I’m up to 40,000 words), to become a grandparent, to visit Ireland

What do you like to do for yourself? I love swimming and I try to get to the pool at least once a week for my 1km ‘black line therapy’

Who do you seek advice from? Close friends and family

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting their own business? Be passionate and patient and plan well. Listen well and learn but don't ever be afraid to trust your own creative instincts.

What is your tip for a work/life balance? – lists, be organised, make time for family and partners and exercise

Beach / Bush: Beach

APP REVIEW It's been said that without your health you have nothing and many small business owners spend so much time working on and in their business that they sacrifice their health.

It has been proven that incorporating exercise into your day can and will make you more creative and more productive, ultimately improving your bottom line.

Because our smartphones and health apps are always with us, they become constant reminders to check your progress, stay the course and keep your willpower strong. They will track the amount of movement you are doing each day, the amount of sleep you get and even the amount of calories you are consuming.

You will find many different health apps in the Play Store and Apps Store.
SMALL BIZ TIP A website is your piece of property online and a necessary part of your business profile.

It is often the first contact that prospective customers have with your business so its important that a well-developed website has detailed information that answers your potential customers’ questions and demonstrates clearly how you can solve their challenges.

A strong, professional and attractive website is vital to your marketing success.
