ACAAA would love to get the e-Action newsletter in front of as many eyes as possible!  Please forward this issue along to any agency staff members you think might be interested — and let them know that they can get their own subscription as easily as clicking the button at the top of the page!  Thank you for helping to spread the word!
The newly-reformed Human Resources Affiliates Group will hold its next virtual meeting on Tuesday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m. Central time.  Those interested in participating should contact ACAAA Professional Development Director Dexta Jean Rodridguez via email at drodridguez@acaaa.org for details on accessing the session.
ACAAA-Demix” is the name of the new learning management system (LMS) that the Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association will now be using to offer a variety of online courses to staff members of the association’s member agencies.

The ACAAA-Demix platform had its “debut” as the host of ACAAA’s recent 2021 Virtual Summer Conference, but going forward, it will be a “one-stop shop” for a wide range of educational offerings that will offer instruction in both “soft skills” (e.g., communications, collaboration, leadership development) and “hard skills” (e.g., Microsoft Office, presentation creation, project management).

Staff members of ACAAA’s member agencies who have not done so already, are encouraged to visit ACAAA-Demix here and set up an account and a username.  Once there, we invite you to please look around at the options already available: Eventually, ACAAA will be offering certifications through this new platform, as well.
Dear Life-long Learner,

What value would you give empathy? In our line of business, being able to express empathy is priceless. There is no question that the practice of empathy is one of the core attributes we community workers possess. That is why the first class listed under the ACAAA-Demix Employee Orientation category is “Remarkable Customer Service: How to Express Empathy.”

The most surprising thing is that in a span of 10 minutes, viewers can feel inspired and confident working with people – and all the emotions that come with them. As we all know, practicing empathy is a good thing to do, but we get tired. It is these critically important “soft skills” that deserve to be honed and nurtured because, well, they bring out the better side of us.

Through humor and role-playing, the message is clear. Empathy is a huge deal.

A blurb from the course catalogue reads: “The ability to express empathy for your customers’ needs and concerns is one of the most important qualities in providing an exceptional customer experience.  This video course will cover various right (and hilariously wrong) ways to do it.  Will there be some shouting?  Probably.  Will there also be an animatronic dinosaur?  You’ll just have to watch the video to find out.  Another training course from The Jeff Havens Company, where we offer serious solutions in a seriously funny way.”

Nine highly instructive and entertaining classes are offered in the Employee Orientation section, and topics include Interpersonal Effectiveness, Active Listening, Ethics, Communication, Writing Effective Emails, Conflict Resolution, Managing Work & Family, and Professional Excellence. And the best thing is that all the classes are open to every employee.

For first-time users, please open an account at ACAAA-Demix. Go to the dashboard to find Employee Orientation. When you open the category, you will see nine different courses. Choose “Remarkable Customer Service: How to Express Empathy.”

As with all the classes, please complete the evaluation upon completion.

Here’s to your happiness!

Dexta Jean Rodriguez, ACAAA Professional Development Director
