PNND Update

Dear friends,

Have you considered who you would like to nominate for the Nobel Peace prize for 2017?

All members of national assemblies (parliaments) are able to make nominations. Perhaps you are interested in nominating a person (or organization) who is taking leadership for nuclear risk-reduction and disarmament?

The Nobel Peace Committee tends to give the award to leaders or organisations that are making a difference to a current and important peace issue.

As tensions rise between nuclear-armed States, the risks of nuclear weapons being used by accident or miscalculation also increase, especially as thousands of nuclear weapons continue to be deployed under first-use policies with many of them ready to be fired within minutes.

On the other hand, there are new leaders of the US (President-elect Donald Trump) and the United Nations (Secretary-General-elect Antonio Guterres) who have yet to set their policies and priorities.

At this time, the Nobel Peace Committee could be interested in giving the award to a leader or organisation influential in the nuclear disarmament field, in order to elevate their impact on the policies of the nuclear-armed States and their allies.

Nominations must be sent by February 1, 2017 by e-mail to postmaster@nobel.no or post to The Norwegian Nobel Committee, Henrik Ibsens gate 51, 0255 Oslo, Norway.

Please contact PNND if you would like to discuss potential candidates.

Yours sincerely
