November 2014 David F. Heatwole Art and Creativity eNewsletter
November is my month! This month I celebrate 45 years here on earth! Unfortunately, I am seeing more of my loved ones lives ending and I have to light yet another candle with them in mind. May their memory be eternal. One has to wonder for a moment how many more years do I have left? What am I going to be able to do with this time granted to me? Maybe this is why I have finally stepped out of my comfort zone to campaign for the 1st U.S. Arts Ambassador.
Crowd-sourcing campaign launched on Indiegogo
After much assembly and writing I have finally launched my Indiegogo crowd-sourcing campaign. This is like a "Kickstarter" campaign but just using a different website service. If you read my last eNewsletter or follow along with my Facebook posts then you know already that I am trying to raise the funds to carry out many interesting projects by selling 1 million dollar art checks that i call "Reality Checks." I am selling these for $50 each and the sales are trickling in. I wanted to start this crowd-sourcing campaign to see if people would be interested in contributing more for piece of art as well.
I just want to mention here that if I am successful at selling all 30,000 Reality Checks I will be on the international art scene at that point and anyone that owns my work will have the benefit of seeing my art values go up. I am prolific but not so much as to flood the market nor do I intend to be. I plan to release new works and limited edition reproductions but more of my time will be invested in community projects that wont have my name on them. I would love to be simply a studio artist but frankly I cannot because my mind gets bored by the same day in, day out, creation of stuff. I want to build or help rebuild something! I want to see people excited about life and thankful for our talents and work on projects that will allow us to create and play together! Isn't there enough bad news in the world? Let's elevate the arts to make some more good news!
Please consider helping me to further the cause by buying your own "Reality Check" or investing in another on of my pieces!
The game is on! If you are a fan of my work now is your chance to get the piece shown above for free! The contest rules are on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/davidheatwoleart?ref=hl but to give you a quick run down all you have to do is post yourself holding a sign that says "I love David Heatwole Art!" in some fun and creative location or manner and then post that photo on my page, That is all! Then I vote on the best. Deadline is November 19th (World Toilet Day!) one day before my birthday and I will announce the winner on Nov 20th!
NEW MURAL BEING PROPOSED IN MARTINSBURG
Along with the launch of my campaign to be the 1st U.S. Arts Ambassador I have also launched a special website dedicated to my various projects and "vision." My local vision for Martinsburg, WV is starting off with a bang! And not that has nothing to do with a bomb scare (for those of you that remember that.) What it does have to do with is my
intent to create Mural Blvd and also place more murals around the historic district. 1.) new mural proposal paperwork submitted to the city last week. It will need to go before the Historic Preservation Review Commission for consideration. This mural is to be created by another Martinsburg artist, Andy Iverson, who is also an elementary art teacher in Hagerstown, MD. 2.) I am working as a consultant on an exciting mural project called "All Hands In" for the Promise Neighborhood Initiative. We are working on a plan to create murals with the community surrounding Burke Street School. The plan is to place pieces of this mural around the community and on the school. The final print of the pieces united will be on permanent display in a couple areas around the community, one being at the school somewhere. 3.) I am in discussion and planning stage with another prominent organization in town to create a mural pretty close to the Apollo Theatre and Round House which is actually on the route I am proposing for the Mural Blvd. With all of this said the final outcome is to encourage people to a.) take pride in their community b.) take ownership of the future of the city c.) create something exciting that will be a draw for visitors. To continue reaching potential tourism traffic I have launched a website that will be the spot where people can see all of the public art in Martinsburg. The URL is www.TheArtInMartinsburg.com also I plan to create with the community a travel brochure that will promote the art in Martinsburg as well as the arts organizations and more. This isn't completely my baby, much of what I am pushing is what I have kind of pieced together from conversations with people since I have been living and working here. I am just taking the bull by the horns and making it happen. Want to read more about the Mural BLVD? Just visit www.ThisArtistsDream.com to learn more.
