Make Metal Move

We recently held our first Master Class of the year with Make Metal Move, run by the wonderful Pauline Bern. We had a great two days of metal manipulation and exploration through folding, hammering, rolling, raising, drilling and sawing, with plenty of tea and homebaked treats to keep us energised. Thanks to Pauline and all those who took part.

Gray Street Workshop Talk
Studio One Toi Tu, 1 Ponsonby Road, Auckland
Thursday 7 April
5.30pm: Drinks / 6pm: Talk

Gray Street Workshop is a collectively run studio and access facility for artists working in the field of contemporary jewellery and object making. The uncompromising commitment of this group of artists to their work and to a studio-based practice has enabled Gray Street to evolve into one of Australia's most exciting and respected workshops.

In this talk, Gray Street Collective celebrates 30 years of their studio practice and offers a viewpoint and discussion on how an organisation can advance opportunities for makers.

30 x 30: 30th Anniversary Exhibition
Masterworks Gallery, 71 Upper Queen Street, Newton, Auckland

Line of Enquiry

Simon Cuming | Stephanie Donald | Meighan Ellis | Anna Wallis
Bath Street Gallery, 42 Bath Street, Parnell, Auckland
7 - 30 April
Curated by A.D.Schierning

Line of Enquiry looks at geometric abstraction from different fields of practice, presenting works by four artists whose studies follow a familial thread that is realised through design, jewelry, ceramics and painting. The works in Line of Enquiry each draw on the real, for example origami or crystalline forms, and shift these influences into abstract forms. As Freud wrote, ‘the longer you look at an object, the more abstract it becomes, and, ironically, the more real.’
