OceansAdvance is collaborating with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador - Innovation, Trade and Rural Development (IBRD), and Government of Canada - Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) to host a “Buyers” delegation of Ocean Technology and Oil & Gas leaders from China. From Wednesday, June 18th to Friday, June 20th, a sizeable delegation from China’s Ocean Technology (OT) sector, as well as a senior Canadian Trade Commissioner from Guangdong Province, will be in St. John’s as part of a larger Chinese delegation to Atlantic Canada. The group will consist of individuals involved in the Chinese OT sector, including the Oil and Gas OT sub-sector. The mission is being organized to bring in delegates who are interested in purchasing technologies that can be used in their respective organizations, as well as organizations interested in forming relationships with similar NL entities for the purpose of future mutual benefit and collaboration. “We are very excited about this initiative, as China is quickly becoming a lucrative market for our members. The organizing team has worked tirelessly to shape the incoming delegation and build upon the successes realized by OceansAdvance cluster members as a result of a similar approach in 2013. The incoming delegates' profiles are compelling and relevant. This initiative will yield new business development and collaboration opportunities for the Newfoundland and Labrador Ocean Technology innovation cluster” said Barry Snow, Executive Director of OceansAdvance. On Thursday, June 19th, OceansAdvance, and our partners, will be hosting a luncheon followed by a business-to-business connector event with the incoming delegation at the Johnson GEO Centre, Celestial Gallery. 12:00-1:30 Lunch, learn and network. Lunch will be provided. Presentations on both local and China's OT sector will follow. 1:30- 4:00B-to-B Connector Event. Short presentations will be given by the incoming delegates on their organizations and objectives for the visit. Local participants will also be provided with an opportunity to deliver short presentations on their respective organizations and products. One-on-one meetings will subsequently be organized, as requested. The incoming delegation includes oceans related companies, institutions, and associations active in each sub sector, as well as distributors for ocean technology equipment. Some of the identified areas of interest (but not limited to) include: Ocean chemistry optical sensors; marine towing systems; offshore oil and gas detection and exploration equipment; AUV platforms and observation equipment; winching equipment; equipment for underwater mapping and detection; as well as opportunities for joint research and training.
