The 2017 AVF Award

The 2016 AVF Award was a huge success. 300+ student lead teams from around the world applied to participate. The teams had to take their project through 5 milestones, which narrowed the field to 28 teams from 24 different countries. The winning team ultimately hailed from Malaysia. That team continues to move vertical farming forward in their region.

We are very excited to take that to the next level in 2017. To do this, we have decided to expand the award into three awards:
a.     The Modular Vertical Farming Award
b.     The Commercial Vertical Farming Award
c.     The Domestic Vertical Farming Award

We are in the final stages of preparing a packet will fully detail the bidding process to sponsor the 2017 AVF Award and to associate your brand with vertical farming innovation in a positive and dazzling fashion. Contact Andrew, ab@vertical-farming.net, with inquiries and keep an eye out for the packet in the special members only email!

Aglanta

The Aglanta Conference is a gathering to showcase urban and controlled environment agriculture innovation in the City of Atlanta. It will bring together restaurateurs, grocers, architects, entrepreneurs, technologists, business owners, and of course urban farmers for premium networking and knowledge sharing. You can read more here about what really makes Aglanta the most compelling CEA conference of 2017, but the short answer is our partners: The Mayor’s Office of Atlanta, The Southern Company, and Blue Planet Consulting.

The Mayor’s Office will work with us on the local level to spotlight Atlanta’s urban ag champions who already doing incredible work growing food as means of ecological restoration, social cohesion, cultural preservation, economic development, and biopharmaceutical development. Then, The Southern Company (the United States’ 2nd largest utility company & a Platinum level sponsor of Aglanta) will drive the business case home by offering attractive energy rates to urban farms in the Atlanta area.

The Aglanta Conference will be an intimate and invaluable environment for participants to engage with a local, national, and international audience. Through workshops, lectures, and networking sessions, the conference will cover issues across the spectrum of urban agriculture business models and technologies, with a particular focus on vertical/indoor farming. AVF Project Group Highlight

The first phase of the AVF Sustainability Certification scheme is due to go live in Q1 of 2017. This is the first and only scheme designed specifically to address the needs of the VF industry. It will help that industry, government & city planners and the wider public, to know what true sustainability is for VF. It will be driven by data received from vertical farms across the world, benchmarked and verified to ensure the results are legitimate and reliable. Your organisation can lead the way by participating in this in this important scheme. We are recruiting now.

Elsewhere within this division, we also have a plant recipe standardization group, in which work is progressing rapidly. Additionally, there are proposed groups for product certification, product labeling and food computers.

For more details on any of these, contact Standardization & Certification division lead Mark Horler at mh@vertical-farming.net
