AVF Newsletter - March 2016

Hello <<First Name>>,
The AVF is a band of brothers and sisters, standing on the frontline to change the way food is produced. Yet, it's more than that, every member also has a huge impact on the way our society works. Take the AVF project groups for example, they have just been initiated and already taken international collaboration to a whole new level. So stay tuned, because 2016 is going to be remembered.

This month we'd like to highlight:

Vertical Farming in Amsterdam

In mid-June 2016, Amsterdam will be the center of the vertical farming world. On the 13th of June, the annual AVF Summit will take place and from the 14th until the 16th of June the GreenTech exhibition is happening, where for the first time ever, there will be a Vertical Farming pavilion. Both events are not to be missed.

Vertical Farming Award 2016

Since registrations for the #VFAward started on the 1st of March, the response has been overwhelming: More than 150 teams have registered. And there's more good news, the registrations have been extended until the 4th of April so that every team has a little more time to finalise their registration. But don't wait too long, because on the 3rd of April, the first guidance webinar will already take place.

Winners get $5000 and a ticket to the
AVF Summit in Amsterdam.

More info on the timeline and requirements can be found on the Award-website.

AVFami Project Group Highlight

Why? The goal of the project group is to make vertical farming more sustainable, economically and ecologically.

How? By using the circular economy mindset, AVFami is researching the possible connections between different ways of producing food in closed environments. The output of 1 closed system could be the input of another, producing more with much food with less input, or like the AVFami team likes to state it: 1+1+1=10.

What? "AMI" stands for Aquaponics, Mushrooms and Insects. These food sources all have in common that they can be produced in closed environments. The AVFami team consists of 7 researchers who will present their first findings during the
AVF Summit and GreenTech, June 2016 in Amsterdam.
